City of Boynton Beach Hiring for Parks Maintenance Worker – Full Time at Boynton Beach, FL Full Time

Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to perform general and preventative maintenance, participate in daily parks maintenance operations and be a contributing team member of various improvement projects in the Parks and Grounds Division.

Essential Functions
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs routine grounds keeping duties, including installing sod, mowing grass, trimming trees and shrubbery, installing and maintaining landscape materials, removing weeds, edging walkways, applying mulch, removing trash and debris, etc.

Performs landscaping, grounds keeping, carpentry, masonry, plumbing and/or mechanical work and/or general manual labor as necessary to maintain Parks Division grounds, structures, equipment and vehicles.

Performs general maintenance and clean up duties at City parks which include, but are not limited to, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, wiping down tables, chairs and other furnishings, replenishing toilet paper and hand towels, and cleaning concession area, restrooms and fields.

Picks up and disposes ground trash and landscape debris.

Performs general maintenance in City cemeteries to include mowing, string trimming, edging, spraying, blowing. Raise and straighten grave markers as needed.

Participates in mausoleum and in ground burial services in City cemeteries.

Installs and maintains playground equipment, fencing, signs, pathways, etc.

Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles.

Assists with set-up and breakdown of City events, programming activities and facility rentals.

Performs park inspections to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities.

Identifies, reports, repairs and prevents possible safety hazards to avoid potential injuries.

Prepares and submits required records and reports.

Enforces safety and other park rules and regulations.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs general custodial duties including cleaning restrooms as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess or obtain a 10-Hour OSHA General Industry Card within three (3) months of hire; and
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Some experience in manual labor, lawn and/or landscape work.

Knowledge of basic rules of safety and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.

CAREER PATH ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements must be met to advance to Parks Maintenance Worker II:

Must have two (2) years of experience in lawn and landscape maintenance, which includes six (6) months cross training in fertilizing, applying herbicides/pesticides, plant installation/removal, basic athletic field maintenance and basic cemetery operations;

• Truck (1 ton)
• Long Trailer (pull behind)
• Chainsaw
• Hedge Trimmer
• Ride-on Blower
• Sand Pro Drag / Field Groomer
• Sprayer (backpack and tank)

• Must possess or obtain a 30-Hour OSHA General Industry Card;;
• Must possess or obtain a GI-BMP Certification;
• Must meet 100% of Parks Maintenance Worker I KSAs, 70% of Parks Maintenance Worker II KSAs and 100% of the Communication Competencies; and
• Must complete and obtain a minimum score of 80% on the Parks Maintenance Worker II practical exam.

Employees who fail to obtain a minimum score of 80% on the assessment will have a one (1) month waiting period to re-take the assessments. Retesting must be completed within six (6) months from the original test date.

Proof of meeting all of the above requirements/qualifications must be demonstrated by the employee and verified by the supervisor.

Promotional advancement may be delayed at the discretion of the Department Director, the Human Resources/Risk Management Director and the City Manager.
