A Community Service Operator’s success is measured by their ability to provide service in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, the Operator will:
Communicate respectfully and inclusively with diverse community members
Navigate a variety of challenging and complex customer interactions respectfully while ensuring the safety of the passengers at all times
Safely operate a 24 passenger bus, in high-density rush hour traffic, in all weather conditions
Follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and ETS regulations and standards
Follow maps to meet timed schedules while transporting passengers on predetermined routes
Monitor fares and provide transit information
Check the bus for operational readiness before entering into service
Perform scheduled daily assigned work that includes a variety of shifts, including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays
Contribute to Edmonton Transit Service’s professional image by demonstrating responsible and ethical behaviour in all activities

Qualifications :
Grade 11 or an equivalent combination of training and experience
License requirements:
Valid Alberta Class 4 driver’s license or provincial equivalent
Applicants must have held a valid license for the last five (5) consecutive years
Driver’s Abstract Requirements:
MUST provide a minimum 5-year Driver’s Abstract meeting the following criteria :
No more than three (3) demerits (or equivalent) and no more than one (1) moving violation within the last five years
No past or pending license suspensions nor Criminal Code suspensions or convictions within five the last years
Non-driving related suspensions of registry services, if indicated, must show a reinstatement date
Demerits reduced by attending a defensive driver training course will not be accepted
A 5-year driver’s abstract must be obtained within 14 days of the Driving Assessment appointment
Demonstrated ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with diverse members of the public
Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
Demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position that requires excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution and independent decision-making skills
Ability to understand, speak and write English to comprehend Edmonton Transit policies, effectively communicate with the travelling public and report on incidents involving safety and/or service
Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in a variety of traffic and emergency situations
Knowledge of City of Edmonton geography (landmarks, street grid system) and strong map reading skills with the ability to adapt quickly to frequently changing schedules
Knowledge of local/provincial traffic laws and regulations
Basic computer skills to engage with on-board navigation
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which may include walking, squatting, lifting and twisting to safely operate a bus, its controls and provide passengers with assistance
For the candidates successful at the interview stage, hire is dependent on the following:
Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Pre-employment medical examination and a Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Provide Q endorsement/air brakes certification PRIOR to the start of training
Selected applicants must pass all applicable assessments and testing
Successful applicants must be willing to work a variety of shifts; including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays
ASSETS:
Minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience that includes experience dealing with the public (face-to-face/over the phone)
Experience transporting customers and courteously responding to their needs
Ability to communicate in a second language

First-year: guaranteed minimum of 67.5 hours bi-weekly; thereafter: guaranteed minimum of 74 hours biweekly
