How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the development, output, and maintenance of a range of spatial and non-spatial visualisation products, including the Mapping Aboriginal Melbourne website (aboriginal-map.melbourne.vic.gov.au), which demonstrates the collaborative, creative, and impactful work that you will be creating on a day-to-day basis.
The Senior Software Engineer develops and extends the team’s existing in-house City DNA platform, an interactive digital/physical exhibit that visualises spatial data across multiple screens, as well as extending this platform to develop and support related products.
As a senior member within the team, the Senior Software Engineer provides mentoring and guidance while being a vital collaborator in a group with diverse skills ranging from content curation, product design, community engagement, and insights.
You can bring… (Selection criteria)
- Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
- A relevant tertiary qualification in ICT, or a related field
- Understanding & knowledge of modern ReactJS, and in maintaining nodejs applications
- Experience with AWS products such as Amplify and Lightsail
- Experience and understanding of websockets, webpack, vite, mapbox, deck.gl and react-map-gl packages
- Experience and capability of building responsive user interfaces which meet web accessibility standards
- Experience in geospatial data visualisation and an understanding of ArcGIS is desirable
- Sound written and oral communication skills including the capacity to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to build and manage relationships that facilitate the delivery of CoM’s services.
