The Community Safety and Communications Center (CSCC) is seeking a forward thinking and innovative Accounting Technician III. Under the direction of the Principal Accountant/Payroll Supervisor, this position will perform Accounting Technician and Payroll functions.
This position is responsible for accounting and baseline financial reporting and payroll functions. This will serve as CSCC’s accounting/payroll contact for benefit; payroll processes for CSCC employee hires/employment transactions. Responsibilities will include review and inputting complex data, maintenance, auditing, reconciliations, troubleshooting payroll and accounting functions providing outstanding customer service by researching and resolving payroll issues and answering payroll questions from employees and management. This position assists with various external and internal audits and reviews to include various process improvements plans and system enhancements.
Job Responsibilities:
Here is more about this role’s main priorities:
- Assists in processing bi-weekly payroll for CSCC approximately 150 employees, including auditing, coding, inputting and error correction. Processing requires adherence to strict schedules and deadlines and demands a high degree of accuracy.
- Develops and maintains extensive knowledge of City personnel rules and policies, bargaining agreements and Federal, state and city payroll laws and regulations to answer customer inquiries and ensure payroll is accurately processed.
- Develops and maintains a strong understanding of CSCCs Payroll and General Ledger systems and processes.
- Performs various calculations to determine pay adjustments/step increases and allowances. Independently researches and resolves payroll issues. Communicates and documents clearly and concisely results of research or resolutions to issues.
- Assists and or prepares various payroll reconciliations. Prepare correcting entries to ensure accuracy of information.
- Prepares and reviews payroll reports.
- Assists in providing information for federal and state audits as they relate to Payroll.
- Supports areas of Accounts Payable with voucher input, matching, and other duties as assigned. Track checks issued and not cleared and determine the cause. Approve check cancellations and coordinate issuance of new checks and manages returned vendor checks.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires three years of previous accounting and/or bookkeeping experience or one year of work experience as an Accounting Technician II (or a combination of education/experience/training which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

You will be prepared for this role if you have the following experience, skills, and capabilities:
- Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.
- Two years of experience processing payroll.
- Familiarity with payroll and accounting systems such EV5 and PeopleSoft.
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong math aptitude.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good customer service skills.
- Ability to work as a team member and work independently and efficiently.
- Ability to multi-task, respond to unanticipated requests and work under pressure within deadlines.
- Proficient in Excel, Word and Access.
