Job Duties:
Library Program Specialist – Adult Track
Processes holds and provides information to customers about their circulation records and material requests to meet borrowing needs. Searches and updates circulation system. Check materials in and out and registers customers to maintain an accurate database. Performs cash handling duties.
Maintains an ongoing knowledge of reading trends
Developing programs and presenting to the public
Evaluates the accuracy and condition of books/ items in the collection and makes recommendations for the purchase of materials.
Participates in or leads departmental strategic teams to develop system policies and procedures as well as programming, provides training to orient them to their tasks and responsibilities.
Collaborates with colleagues to develop programs, share resources, and communicate trends in adult services.
May be required to be in charge of the library branch and staff in the absence of supervisory personnel.
May be required to manage daily service point schedules, supervise opening and closing procedures including cash reconciliation and securing the building.
Monitors the security of the library facility or outreach site to ensure a safe environment for internal and external customers.
May supervise volunteers, serving as a Volunteer Resource Manager.
Will be using all Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Skype for Business, the internet, and mobile devices).
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a combination of higher education and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years, one (1) of which must have been in direct delivery of information services, in a library related field which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. May require a Commercial Driver’s License. This position may be designated as a safety sensitive position and be subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.

1 year work experience using all Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Skype for Business, the internet, and mobile devices).
3 years of work experience with customer service/public relations
Working experience of collaborative teamwork and communication skills
1 year experience of leading departmental Strategic teams to develop system of policies/procedures as well as programming and training
Experience developing programs and presenting to the public.
1 year experience of bookstore clerk/library related field
Knowledge of opening /closing of office including cash reconciliation and securing building.
Experience in evaluation of accuracy and conditions of books/items in collection and making recommendations for purchase of materials.
