The School of Science & Technology provide a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a broad spectrum of subjects covering Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The School is home to around 3,500 students studying full time, part time and in modular modes.
The School’s Academic Services team provides administrative support and advice to academic and administrative staff within the School; it also encompasses day-to-day support for the School’s degree programmes. The team is involved in the admissions and recruitment, programme approval process, managing student appeals and complaints, providing expert assessment advice, managing timetabling and examinations issues and is also responsible for data and management information.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the School’s Academic Services team, reporting to the Quality & Student Experience Manager. The Student Welfare Officer will work closely with the Associate Deans, Head of Academic Services and the Student Experience Officer, and will have oversight of processes that support the student journey and enhance student progression. The postholder will take a lead on Safeguarding and Welfare provision within the School.
This varied role requires the use of independent judgement and initiative, the ability to understand and apply complex University regulations to live situations, as well as strong administrative and excellent interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate will have a first degree and experience of working in higher education dealing with student support or welfare roles at academic faculty or department level. They will have excellent communication skills and exceptional organisational skills and will be able to work comfortably within a team as well as with minimum supervision. Confidence in the use of IT systems, particularly the use of MS office packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
