The RN Intern is a nursing student who has completed a minimum of one clinical rotation and skills lab. Upon supervision and direction of charge nurse or designated RN, the RN intern performs patient care and other duties as assigned. The functions performed require judgement based on the application of knowledge and adherence to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.

Position Requirements

• Assists with personal hygiene.

• Bed-making and cleaning duties as appropriate.

• Obtains vital signs and documents.

• Obtains blood glucose and documents.

• Assists with simple dressing changes.

• Maintains current records.

Essential Functions

• Completes the following position responsibilities in a timely manner: catheterization insertion and removal, irrigations, obtaining of specimens, and basic suctioning.

• Uses and maintains department equipment according to department and hospital policies.

• Reports equipment failures immediately as per requirements.

• Follows department and hospital infection control policies.

Physical Demands

• Lifts 50lbs minimum with frequent lifting/carrying of items up to no more than 25lbs.

• Positions, lifts, and/or transfers patients.

Educational, Licensure, & Experience Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent required.

• NLN approved school of nursing with minimum of one clinical rotation and skills lab completed successfully required.

• AHA BLS required.
