Mō mātou | About us
He Pou a Rangi | The Climate Change Commission (the Commission) is an Independent Crown Entity established under the Climate Change Response Act 2002.
We provide independent, expert advice to the Government of Aotearoa New Zealand on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government’s progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals. The Commission plays a key role in developing and implementing clear and stable climate change policies in Aotearoa New Zealand.
In the past three years we’ve provided advice on the first three emissions budgets, the direction of the Government’s first emissions reduction plan, agricultural emissions pricing, and NZ Emissions Trading Scheme settings.
We are now expanding our work programme, with six statutory deliverables in 2024. We are therefore seeking great people to join us to deliver on the Commission’s growing responsibilities. More details can be found here Our upcoming work » Climate Change Commission (climatecommission.govt.nz)
Ngā Tūnga | The Role
We are seeking a Senior Analyst (Technical Writer) with the skills to help the Commission deliver the greatest possible impact with our advice.
The Commission has a significant number of statutory deliverables over the next few years, and the work continues to inform how Aotearoa New Zealand undertakes climate change mitigation and adaptation. We are seeking an individual with a blend of the strategic thinking and writing skills to ensure the Commission’s products emphasise what is most important to New Zealanders, and what actions are most important to achieve a low-emissions, climate-resilient future.
The purpose of the role is to bring together analysis taking place across Commission and help bring it together into a coordinated view. The person in this role will help ensure consistency of direction in the work the Commission produces, bring innovative approaches to system issues, and communicate these issues clearly in written documents.
The role will lead and contribute to work across the analytical teams within the Commission. An ability to connect and build relationships will be key, as will the capability to come up to speed rapidly with complicated content. In most instances the individual will not be responsible for leading the depth of analytical work into a specific topic – their role will be to act as the connector and storyteller for the analytical work. The individual will work closely with other technical writers, as well as the project leads for statutory deliverables, the Commission’s Communications and Engagement team, the senior leadership team, and the Board of the Commission.
Specifically, the individual will be responsible for
A key priority for the Commission is te ao Māori. This means we work with our Treaty partner and grow our capability and capacity to accurately reflect Māori views and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our work. We embrace diversity and inclusion and are committed to equality and equity. We actively encourage applications from all backgrounds.
Our head office is Wellington based; however, the Commission is a flexible by default organisation therefore we welcome applications from candidates who are open to working remotely from locations across New Zealand.
