Coast Mental Health Hiring For Cafe Supervisor at Vancouver, BC Full Time
Job Description:
Social Crust Cafe & Catering was launched in October of 2014 (formerly known as Cafe 335) as a social enterprise of Coast Mental Health. In partnership with Coast’s Culinary Skills Training Program, we provide a safe space for young adults with barriers to employment and the opportunities to gain commercial kitchen experience, learn soft skills, and enter the workforce in a working café.
Primary Responsibility
The Cafe Supervisor will be able to execute daily operations and supervise a team of cooks in training in a professional manner. The ideal candidate is proactive and can take the initiative to do the work and will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team. High level of patience and empathy is required to succeed in this role.
Typical duties include:
- Running the operations of the kitchen
- Kitchen procedures, organization & safety protocols
- Kitchen inventory monthly – managing food cost – Food ordering weekly
- Staff Scheduling – managing labour costs
- Communications with kitchen staff and managers
- Elevating the guest’s cafe experience – customer service
- Executing customer orders – cafe, catering and special projects
- Creating daily soups/specials
- Handling POS system and cash transactions

Job Requirements:
- Must be able to work in Canada – Working Visa – Valid SIN #
- 2+ years of experience in a hospitality environment with high expectations for customer service
- Valid Food Safe 1 Certificate
- Experience in independent cafes an asset
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior kitchen experience as a sous chef or kitchen supervisor
- Training in a professional kitchen or culinary certificate
- Baking and/or pastry experience a plus
Leadership:
- Ability to lead and motivate the team
- Ability to give constructive and meaningful feedback
- Willingness to receive and act upon feedback received from others
- Demonstrate and embed the company values throughout the cafe
- Ability to Supervise: 5 to 10 people
