In this position, you will ensure network solutions meet the business requirements and needs of the City of Colorado Springs Information Technology Department. You will ensure delivered solutions are secure, align with business goals and needs, support a common operating environment and user interaction model, use supported City technology platforms, and deliver quality and scale. You will assist or lead the design and selection of future platforms, addressing cross-technology and cross-platform issues.

• Perform operations and maintenance tasks within Cisco networking and security platforms
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment, software, and circuits
• Implement required changes in compliance with the IT change management process
• Participate in problem management discussion to determine root cause
• Review system logs and alerts; respond according to documented procedures
• Provide proactive process improvement, analysis of best practices, and identification and mitigation of network risks
• Analyze performance trends, identify workflow or technology gaps, and recommend changes to improve the quality and efficiency of networks, systems, and security
• Develop Rough Order Magnitude estimates and Solution Design Packages by working with cross-functional teams to define business service request requirements, solutions, and schedules
• Support the development of estimates and Technical Solution Designs by working with Solution Architects and Engineers as well as other cross-functional teams

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate

Knowledge of and experience with:

• Cisco routing, switching and security technologies
• Routing protocols (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol and BGP)
• Operations, maintenance, and security of multiple Cisco Platforms (IOS, NX-OS, Firepower, and Adaptive Security Appliances)
• ZScaler zero trust product operations, configurations and troubleshooting
• Cisco AnyConnect VPN sustainment, operations, and security
• Remote Authentication Dial-In User System/Terminal Access Controller Access-Control
• Wireless networking sustainment, operations, and security (Access Point and Wireless Controller)
• Voice Over Internet Protocol operations and maintenance
• Multi-vendor environments
• Proper customer collaboration and engagement techniques
• Traffic analysis and troubleshooting using tools such as Wireshark, Syslog, Netflow
• Cisco security platforms (Firepower, Identity Services Engine, AnyConnect)
• Operations, maintenance, and security of multiple CISCO Platforms (IOS, NX-OS, WLC’s)
• Advanced knowledge of routing protocols (EIGRP and BGP)
• TCP/IP and LAN
• RADIUS / TACACS+
• Application traffic flows on an enterprise network

Ability to:

• Work independently to take on projects requiring network engineering across multiple IT technical areas
• Research, analyze, and resolve highly complex problems using the significant application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation
• Break down highly complex technical topics into language and diagrams understandable by the requesting business unit and executive sponsors
• Develop solutions that are appropriate to the opportunity at hand in terms of simplicity, cost, and supportability
• Solve complex problems that are self-discovered or elevated from Tier-I/II
• Complete assigned tasks and duties with minimal direction and guidance
• Work as a teammate within and across functional teams
• Professional verbal and written communications
• Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, with users and technical support
• Respond to after-hours emergency situations as required

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, network engineering, information management, or a related field
• Three years of full-time professional end-to-end solution development experience across a wide range of hardware and software technologies
• Possess, or obtain upon hire CompTIA Security+
• Possess, or obtain upon hire Cisco Certified Network Associate or Cisco Certified Network Professional within 6 months of hire

One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

• Solution delivery experience within a state, county, or city government environment
• Application technical solution engineering experience
• Demonstrated understanding of network designs, topologies, both transport and security
• Design/Architect IT solutions around Cisco, Microsoft Office365, Cybersecurity, and Microsoft Azure systems

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
