Note: Anticipated work hours for this shift position are Tuesday – Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Friday 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional Sundays, early mornings, and alternate shift work may be required during staff shortages, inclement weather, etc. An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects (i.e. lifting trash, floor machines, vacuums, buckets of water, pushing cleaning equipment, moving furniture, lift floor machines, buckets of water, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. Use ladders to maintain and clean high areas. Successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc.

MCC is located on I-76, 80 miles northeast of Denver and approximately 100 miles east of Rocky Mountain National Park. MCC provides high quality lower division transferable courses and occupational education culminating in a variety of certificate, associate, and baccalaureate degree programs through traditional, innovative, and non-traditional delivery methods to an 11,500 square mile service area in eastern Colorado.

Description of Job
Position will work with custodial chemicals daily and sweep, mop, wax and polish floors by hand or machine; vacuum, wash windows (interior and exterior), doors, walls and ceilings; collect trash and waste; clean and sanitize restrooms. Lift floor machines, vacuums, buckets of water, trash cans, furniture and other items without assistance as necessary to complete tasks. Use defined means of college communication to maintain safety of staff and students, i.e. walkie-talkies, cellular telephone, etc. Set up and remove furniture for special events. Lock and unlock college buildings and classrooms as required while maintaining security. Position will open and close campus buildings on Saturdays and occasional Sundays. Understand and operate college security system and fire alarms and respond to alarms during shift using established college procedures. Shovel snow, spread ice melt, maintain outside walks year round. Assist in keeping outside premises safe and orderly. Adjust/prioritize established cleaning schedule to not interfere with scheduled classes and/or meetings. Follow established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Notify supervisor of any equipment repairs and/or replacements and supplies needed. Use personal computer to send and receive e-mail regarding college and department matters. Position must have effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong time management skills, and provide excellent customer service.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications: Six months of custodial experience. Explain use and care of custodial equipment used in detail on your application. Attention to detail is a must to be successful. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, follow directions, and communicate effectively with faculty and staff. Do not put “see resume” on application. Your application must be completed in detail explaining your experience. Part-time experience will be pro-rated.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado driver’s license to operate company vehicles, attend meetings, clean downtown location as needed, etc. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check which will include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide MCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. Successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers during their shift. Position will be subject to call back status due to inclement weather and emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience cleaning labs and classrooms in a community college setting. Experience operating carpet extractors, automatic floor machines, buffers, etc. Knowledge/experience in proper methods to strip and re-wax hard surface flooring; proper methods of handling waste and an understanding of environmental issues when using and handling cleaning products; proper sanitation procedures for restrooms; minimum 6 months prior experience in hard surface floor and carpet maintenance, operating floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, and floor buffers; one year prior experience working as a Custodian. Knowledge of Windows, Word, and Excel beneficial. Strong time management and organizational skills.
