As a member of the Global Technology Services (GTS) division, you will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding to deployment to operation. Our GTS products and services are leveraged across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to deliver industry-leading software including: CommBank App, Netbank, CommSee, CommSec, CommBiz and Commbank.com.au.
This position will pre-dominantly be based at Commonwealth Bank’s state of the art Eveleigh office’s although we also provide flexible working conditions and also provide the opportunity to work remotely or in a hybrid environment.

As a Staff Systems Engineer and Squad Lead for Cloud SOE (Standard Operating Environment), you will be the Technical Product owner of the Cloud SOE services and service offerings.

Guide and mentor junior members of the Cloud SOE squad
Provide Technical and Engineering leadership of the Cloud SOE product and service offerings.
Provide leadership and direction to the squad engineers for the day to day and sprint cycle delivery.
Collaborate with others including Product Owners, Solution Architects and Designers, Systems Engineers, Application Developers, Network Technicians, Delivery Managers, and Program Officers. Engineering is a team sport; we achieve outcomes by working together
Extract business and technology requirements and collaborate on solution designs
Evaluate solution designs and implementations and provide guidance to make solutions effective and optimised for hosting on Cloud SOE.
Implement solutions together with business unit engineers ensuring that they can run and maintain the application workload solution once the engagement completes
Enable adoption of public cloud at scale by developing codified service, using native constructs (Cloud Formation and ARM) as well as third party Infrastructure as Code platforms such as Terraform
Advise our customers as a cloud technical expert on how best consume, build and run public cloud services and solutions, specifically on a standard Cloud SOE service platform.
You will partner with the cloud foundations and technical support teams to ensure issues encountered during execution and operations support are addressed within their appropriate SLAs
Tech skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We do not expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these, or a willing to learn these skillsets (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team!
Demonstrable experience designing, building Enterprise SOE service and platforms.
Experience with designing and implementing security hardening of Operating Systems platforms for ensuring SOEs compliant to Bank Security requirements.
Experience with Vulnerability and Patch Management solutions in relation to Operating Systems and SOEs.
Developing new tools and cloud SOE (AWS / Azure, Windows / RHEL) service offerings to be integrated across the bank
Experience working in a build and execution capacity across Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure)
Midrange and Cloud infrastructure design and operations
Ability to influence senior leaders such as EM/GM level regarding the technology roadmap for Cloud and SOE infrastructure technologies
Driving automation through understanding processes and implementing improvements
Strong presentation, verbal communication, and written communications skills
Presenting your work to peers in your immediate team and to engineers, scientists, and managers across the broader Systems Engineering community
Hands-on experience of programming in languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar
Hands-on experience with automating cloud native technologies, deploying applications, and provisioning infrastructure via code
Experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, logging and monitoring
