Does the thought of being able to watch an appeal from receipt to final decision stir your curiosity? No need to look any further than the State Civil Service Commission’s Legal Services Office where you will become a vital member of our legal team working in a small office with a friendly atmosphere.
Provides clerical services to the Legal Services Office of the State Civil Service Commission. Prepares and mails correspondence, memoranda, reports, orders, and subpoenas to the parties of an appeal. Processes Civil Service appeals and inputs into the Commission’s Docket System. Creates appeal folder, scans appeal, and makes any needed copies of appeal.
Communicates effectively verbally and in written form with a variety of people including, but not limited to: appellants, attorneys, agency staff. Answers incoming phone calls; taking accurate messages and/or transferring calls as needed. Must be able to explain procedure for filing an appeal, filing a request for reconsideration, requesting a continuance.
Prepares monthly agenda regarding the new appeals for the Commission’s monthly meeting. Prepares and issues orders after Commission meeting. Creates folders for appeals granted hearings, refiling copies of material appropriately, and distributing/filing as required. Updates Docket System throughout appeal process to ensure accuracy. Prepares and mails hearing files to presiding Commissioner/Hearing Officer. May be asked to attend Civil Service hearings. Reviews hearing transcripts and contacts court reporting service regarding any necessary corrections.

Work Day/Hours
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with a 1-hour lunch
You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
Six months as a Clerk Typist 1 and educational development to the level of eighth grade;
OR
Completion of high school business curriculum which included at least one typing course;
OR
Any combination of equivalent experience and training.
