Commonwealth of PA Hiring for Geoscience Trainee at Dauphin County, PA Full Time

Do you have a natural science background and a passion for protecting the environment? Are you looking for a new career putting that passion into action? The Department of Environmental Protection is looking for a Geoscience Trainee to join the team.

Provide geology assistance and support to the Mine Fire, Permitting, and Professional Services Section of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation’s Division of Project Development and Design and assist in the investigation, evaluation, planning, development, and permitting of a wide range of abandoned mine land (AML) problems and AML reclamation. Projects include mine fire investigations, surface mine reclamation, mine subsidence control, closure of mine openings, abandoned mine drainage remediation, and more.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
• 
  Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

• Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists; or
• A bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
