DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Highway Drafter, in PennDOT District 12-0, this position’s primary responsibility is performing Construction cost estimates for in-house and design consultant projects. The person in this position will perform multiple estimates for each project at various project stages. They will also be responsible for distributing bid results and preparing bid justifications. The person in this position will work with contract management, project managers, and various units within the District.
The person in this position is also responsible for Surface Improvement Projects. Typically, there is one Surface Improvement Project for each county per year. The person in this position will field view the routes, develop quantities and items using Auto Tab, draft and prepare Construction plans, and upload project information into ECMS.
This position will also be responsible for the non-standard provisions worksheet and will assist Contract Management when time allows.
Looking for someone having a strong work ethic, basic understanding of construction projects, and drafting experience. Other skills we are looking for include the ability to work effectively with others and a positive attitude.
Full-time employment.
Work Hours: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm; Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as an Engineering Technician; OR two years of experience in a variety of drafting assignments, one of which shall have been in highway drafting, including six months CADD experience or training, and graduation from high school; OR one year of experience in highway drafting and detailing assignments including six months of CADD experience or training and an Associate’s Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
