THE POSITION
TheState Correctional Institution at SCI Coal Township is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as Corrections Plant Mechanic.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides skilled work in the repair of high-pressure boilers and related steam hot water equipment that generate steam heat and hot water. As a Corrections Plant Mechanic you will be responsible for the maintenance of the following equipment: gas fixed water and steam boilers, chillers and cooling towers, feed pumps, gas and oil handling equipment, emergency diesel equipment, air compressor equipment, domestic hot water boilers, and may include H.V.A.C. units. You will train inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of Plant Mechanic work by demonstration, explanation and close supervision during work assignments.
You will be responsible for the care, custody and control of inmates during work assignments.

Work Hours: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Work Days: Monday through Friday
Hours per week: 40
This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55.
This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement.
Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $42,369.00 (before taxes).
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
If you are selected for hire and you are not a current Commonwealth employee, this position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of your employment. You are considered to be fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines) or two weeks after receiving a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Johnson & Johnson vaccine). If you are not fully vaccinated prior to the start of your employment, or you have not received an accommodation exempting you from the Commonwealth’s vaccination policy based on a medical or religious reason, your job offer will be rescinded.
If you are selected for hire and you are a current Commonwealth employee, this position requires you to be either fully vaccinated prior to starting in this position OR undergo weekly testing for COVID-19. One year of experience in performing skilled mechanical repair work involving heavy machines; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from high school;
OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
