The Position
This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy in the Department of Corrections. The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies as they occur for up to one year.
An Account Clerk II performs responsible accounting clerical work in one or more financial areas: payables, receivables, payroll, statistical reporting and customer services; and to maintain ledgers, journals and other financial records in an accounting system.
The Recruitment Process:
1. Applications are due by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 15, 2022.
2. Applicants will be invited via email to take an online assessment tentatively the week of April 18, 2022. The assessment may measure the following areas: accounts payable, cash handling, and preparing deposits.
3. Applicants who successfully complete the online assessment will tentatively have their supplemental responses scored by subject matter experts the week of April 25, 2022. The most qualified applicants from the scoring of the supplemental questions will invited to participate in oral panel interviews.
4. Oral panel interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place the week of May 9, 2022. The most qualified candidates from the oral panel interviews will be forwarded to the hiring department for consideration.

Example of Duties
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Maintain a variety of financial or statistical records requiring the use of independent judgment; prepare and check payrolls. check invoices for proper extensions, taxes, discounts and totals; match invoices to purchase orders to ensure that correct items are invoiced and that billing is proper, type warrants, post, check, balance and adjust accounts, schedule, index and file bills, vouchers, documents and other material, keep subsidiary ledgers, reconcile bank statements, check various statistical and accounting tables and reports; accumulate records and compile statements; assist in preparing accounting or statistical reports, operate calculating and bookkeeping machines, typewriters and other office machines, maintain files and perform general clerical duties as required, may assist the public and other employees by answering inquiries about departmental policies and procedures; may assist the public in completing forms, may operate a computer terminal/console for the purpose of entering and retrieving information. Perform related duties as assigned.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods and practices of bookkeeping and of financial and statistical record keeping.
General requirements and procedures in a local government accounting system.
Modern office methods, procedures and equipment.
Software used to record financial transactions.
SKILL TO:
Operate a computer terminal.
Prepare complex financial reports.
Make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
Operate a calculator, adding machine, typewriter and other basic office equipment.
Perform responsible and complex clerical procedures in one or more financial areas.
Use software to record financial transactions.
ABILITY TO:
Use independent judgment in maintaining financial and statistical records.
Follow oral and written instruction.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone or in person.
Communicate tactfully in stressful situations when dealing with individuals holding differing opinions and viewpoints.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
One year of directly related experience in financial record keeping work.
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by basic bookkeeping or record keeping training.
License or Certificate:
Certain positions assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
