The Opportunity

The Foundations team in Culture Amp’s Product Group owns the shared tools and frameworks that our product teams use to build the Culture Amp platform. Among these is the Kaizen design system (https://cultureamp.design/), which due to the number of teams now relying on it to build consistent, high-quality UIs, needs additional engineers to help it grow.

As a part of this team of amazing humans,

You will (the role)

• help to evolve and grow the Kaizen design system’s component library, built in React,
• refine the component library’s dev tooling (Storybook, codemods, etc.), to improve the developer experience and facilitate contributions from our product teams, and
• improve Kaizen UI component quality and documentation.

You are interested in;

• A demonstrated interest in UI component libraries, and are motivated to build a successful design system to help Culture Amp succeed,
• Interest or expertise in web platform fundamentals (HTML, CSS, DOM, accessibility, performance, responsive design) and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g. React),
• experience building large-scale JavaScript/TypeScript applications (design patterns, component API design, codebase health and scalability).
• An interest in UI design (typography, animation, interaction design patterns).

You’ll be a fit if you are;

• an avid learner, constantly researching best practices, and emerging tech and patterns in the design systems space,
• a natural collaborator and communicator – Much of this work involves cross-team collaboration and discussion, giving feedback (especially in code reviews), teaching and pairing,
• optionally experienced maintaining a long-running project with an “internal open source” contribution model.

You will help us craft beautifully designed and intuitive user experiences. We believe that creating well-tested, clean code is just as important for the front end as the back end. You should enjoy being surrounded by talented engineers, learning from others, as well as contributing to their development.

Our teams are remote-friendly, and all embrace flexible working arrangements. We use GitHub to collaborate and review each other’s code as pull requests. We deliver to production via continuous integration and delivery using Buildkite (or GitHub Actions where Buildkite is not a great fit).
