Our Shop Foreman works out of our West Point Yard and is responsible for overseeing employees and ensuring that all work is completed efficiently. This position requires strong leadership skills, specific knowledge of the shop trades/industry, and knowledge of all proper job site safety. The Shop Foreman will oversee the day-to-day duties of his/her staff, order supplies, fixes all fleet issues, and enforces rules and regulations associated with the job site. Must be well versed in repairs and preventive maintenance of both the Light Truck and Commercial Dump Truck Fleet. Knowledge of CAT equipment and Heavy Iron is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Help recruit new shop employees
Provides employee training and works with the Safety Director to ensure his/her staff has all the required training of the work tasked out
Works with the Assistant Fleet Manager to build and manage the Shop Techs schedule
Oversees the daily productivity and efficiencies of all assigned techs
Warns and disciplines employees not working to company standards
Works with Assistant Fleet manager to schedule and process work orders from the field
Must be computer literate and able to work within the individual manufacturer programs to diagnose issues for repair
Maintains good work records and files
Submits all tickets, invoices, and timecards at COB daily
Assigns duties to shop techs
Assists in repair, construction, maintenance, or other tasks invoiced in fulfilling the assigned work orders (this is a working position)
Reviews work completed to ensure it is up to quality standards
Enforces all health and safety policies in the shop
Ensures all deadlines are met
Assists employees in on-site health or safety emergencies
Addresses and resolves customer issues and complaints
Inspects and cleans shop equipment daily
Operates shop machinery such as forklifts or manufacturing equipment
Ensures that shop area is clean, organized, and free of dangerous or hazardous materials
Order supplies as needed (limits apply)
Education & Specialized Knowledge
High school diploma or GED required.
5-10 years shop experience required.
Demonstrates strong leadership skills
Possesses detailed knowledge of shop floor and industry
Works well with team and works to build a stronger team
Exhibits strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the field personnel. Works towards one team
Possesses strong problem-solving abilities
Demonstrates awareness of all health and safety protocols.
Is able to maintain a strong presence and remains calm and clear-headed in an emergency.
Manages personnel, shop, and tech time efficiently
Is able to multi-task effectively
Pays attention to detail.
Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
Possesses the computer skills necessary stay abreast of the ever-changing technology and with that possesses the skills to train others.
Ability to read, interpret, and compose work orders.
Communicates clearly and effectively.
Is capable of translating industry terminology into straightforward terms for explanatory purposes.
Carries the needed certifications or could obtain them
