Description
- Receive, create, process, add holdings, and update records as needed in accordance with standard cataloging rules with particular emphasis on the data records for all media designated for libraries.
- Search Bibliographic utilities and other library catalogs for bibliographic records and create original records when necessary.
- Load assigned vendor records and check loaded records for errors, correcting as necessary.
- Merge duplicate records.
- Assist with on-the-job training of new and/or temporary employees and distribute training and informational materials as directed by coordinator.
- Physically make materials shelf-ready for assigned schools.
- Respond to inquiries from librarians, vendors, employees and the public in an accurate, knowledgeable, efficient and courteous manner, bringing to the attention of the coordinator those that cannot be handled.
- Participates in opening, closing, weeding, or organizing of libraries as directed by coordinator or at the request of library leadership.
- Identify school ownership and prepare media for placement on carts for assigned campuses .
- Discuss and gives feedback to coordinator on project progress.
- Store, verify and maintain accurate account of cataloging and processing supplies, and notify coordinator of inventory on hand.
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (USA equivalency).
- Five years of directly related data entry experience, excellent typing skills (60 w/min).
- Knowledge of personal computers, standard office software and hardware, printers, and the ability to operate office equipment, as required.
- Knowledge of cataloging and MARC21 (or later) tagging principles.
- Knowledge of safety concerning handling of media materials.
- Knowledge of District organizations, operations and administrative policies preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in meeting the public, a diverse community and District staff.
- Demonstrated professional attitude as well as a teamwork attitude with colleagues, supervisors, all district staff and the public
