Dawn Aerospace Looking for Senior Mechanical Engineer (Space Launch) at Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand Full Time

This is a substantial, complex project. Are you an exceptional problem solver?

Drawing from experience on similar projects you will ensure complex mechanical components and subsystems meet their requirements as well as considering design for manufacture. As a senior engineer you must also collaborate and guide team members. Aviation, space or other high-performance engineering experience is expected.

You will:

• Design and manufacture our reusable launch vehicle system
• Develop vehicle subsystems from high-level requirements
• Design for manufacturing
• Manufacture and assemble spaceplanes
• Test and qualify flight hardware
• Conduct compliance reporting
• Perform peer review and release of designs

Requirements

What you will bring:

• An advanced qualification in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similar
• At least 5 years’ professional experience on highly complex systems such as aircrafts, spacecrafts, cars, autonomous vehicles, or military equipment
• Experience in designing for manufacturing
• A proven ability to complete a design process from requirement to final part assembly and test
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
• A demonstrated ability to flexibly and positively deal with evolving project constraints
• Proficiency in 3D Computer Aided Design, preferably SolidWorks
• Strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work in multiple engineering disciplines on an aggressive schedule
• Strong technical report writing skills

It would be great if you also have:

• Experience with the aircraft design process
• Experience in the manufacturing of complex composites (aircraft) parts
• Experience with FEA, preferably ANSYS, SolidWorks simulation
• Basic understanding of electrical circuitry, sensors design and measurement
• Experience with pressure vessel design
• Experience with linkage design
• Experience with braking and suspension systems
• Experience with fatigue and life cycle analysis
• Experience with thermodynamics and heat transfer
