Job Summary

The Shelter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Housing & Support Specialist team in their efforts to assist families experiencing homelessness in our emergency shelter program. The Shelter Supervisor guides the Housing and Support Specialists in following program policies and procedures, enrolling clients in the proper program, and providing support services to families to ensure a transition to housing sustainability. The Shelter Supervisor also assists the Director of Programs and Operations with administrative tasks related to program management.

Essential Responsibilities And Duties

• Provide daily supervision of assigned staff to ensure compliance with program policies and procedures, family service planning, record-keeping, and effective follow-up with clients by staff.
• Guide staff in providing case management utilizing trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and a strengths-based approach to assist families in reaching their goals and maintaining permanent housing.
• Assist staff with resolutions to challenging situations, mediate client and/or property management concerns, and serve as a point of contact for client grievances.
• Work collaboratively with Housing and Support Specialists to support families in shelter and find permanent housing options.
• Evaluate program effectiveness, develop improved processes; track program outcomes, and assist with reporting and administrative tasks related to program management.
• Determine eligibility for the Rapid Rehousing Program per HUD requirements and apply HUD and other rental assistance program regulations. Process rental and utility assistance payments on time.
• Ensure timely and accurate data management including case notes, assessments, and data entry into HMIS and other data management systems to meet funder and agency requirements.
• Audit client files and electronic records monthly and schedule peer review of client files quarterly.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and staff-development activities.
• Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work evenings and occasional weekends.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or other related fields from an accredited institution required or Associate degree with relevant experience.
• Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in human services.
• Demonstrated sensitivity and ability in working with the diversity of the agency’s population, including but not limited to, clients, staff, community partners, and board of directors.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Case management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of program/client data tracking systems and Microsoft products.
• Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, kneel, bend, reach, and manipulate objects; move materials up to 10 pounds on a regular basis; infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Frequent travel required. Must have a reliable car, active auto insurance, and valid Florida driver’s license.
• Successfully completed a Level 2 criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.
