DEKA Fabrication Hiring for DEKA // Architectural Designer at Remote Full Time

DEKA Fabrication is a boutique architectural design/build firm in Oakland with interest in how people can creatively interact with their built environment. We have an opening for an Architectural Designer for 3-5 days a week with opportunities to expand into other roles. We are looking for a strong team member that can proactively engage others on a social level – we utilize a non-traditional management structure that relies heavily on communication, autonomy, and group engagement.

DEKA’s niche is in building elements utilizing non-traditional construction – for example, this includes sculptural entrance canopies, public art, mobile retail spaces, deployable structures, and privacy booths for offices (please see our website for examples). It is often required that we are inventive with our detailing, tectonics, and method of construction – construction experience is a must as it is essential for you to know from experience which design solutions are the best fit to optimize fabrication and installation efficiency.

The Architectural Designer is responsible for detailing schematic designs provided by Design Principal and Owner. This includes designing solutions down to the smallest details, generating fabrication & construction documents, specifying hardware, working with input such as on-site as-built measurements, collaboration and workshopping with fabricators and installers, and material research.

This position can be performed remotely if preferred.

Essential Functions

• 3+ years of professional experience designing in an architectural firm
• Familiarity with Rhino
• Knowledge of common metal fabrication detailing
• Knowledge of common fabrication processes (e.g. CNC punch press, brake forming, welding)
• Ability to research hardware & material solutions

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $30.00 – $80.00 per hour
