Psychiatry Forensic APP (Job ID: 5576)Job SummaryThis provider has experience and expertise in the behavioral health care ofincarcerated individuals. In this role, the provider collaborateseffectively with law enforcement and other legal professionals and hasknowledge of the legal and forensic aspects of psychiatry. With physiciansupervision performs professional psychiatric advanced practice in theexamination, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric patients mainly inDenver City and County Jails and also throughout Denver Health as needed.Examines and diagnoses patients. Develops and implements treatment plans.Orders tests and medications. Prescribes medications, writesprescriptions, implements brief behavioral interventions, and monitorstreatment progress.Responsibilities*Provide behavioral healthcare to incarcerated individuals*Assesses, treats, and monitors psychiatric conditions, makes decisionsregarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed.*Orders, prescribes, and monitors appropriate medications.*Orders and interprets laboratory tests and imaging studies for psychiatricassessment and treatment.*With physician supervision, may provide care to complex patients who haveco-occurring psychiatric, medical and substance use disorders; chronic andsevere mental illness; homelessness; poverty; and treatment-resistance*Applies treatment statutes for involuntary psychiatric and substancetreatment.*Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timelymanner. Documentation is complete, concise and reflects care given. Preparesand maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records.*Participates in the clinical education of beginner and advanced healthcarestudents (PA, NP, MD, residents) and new staff. Enhancesprofessional growth and development through participation in educationalprograms, reviewing current literature, and attending in-service meetingsand w*Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Uses theprinciples and practices of effective communication to elicit information,negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programsor policies. Promotes an inclusive work environment.*Collaborates with other health care professionals in assessing, planning,implementing and evaluating care for individuals, collaborates with RiskManagement to resolve identified and potential problems and ensures properreporting of events as dictated by policy.*Promotes department and hospital priorities as conveyed by supervisor andcompletes other duties as assigned*Collaborates effectively and respectfully with law enforcement and otherlegal professionalsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities1.Knowledgeable and compliant with all regulatory standards, includingspecialty level requirements.2.Knowledge of major concepts, principles and theories related to substanceabuse and psychiatric disease processes.3.Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of psychiatricmedications which includes labs needed and side effects to look out for.4.Skill in brief behavioral interventions such as motivational interviewingand verbal de-escalation5.Skill in using the principles and practices of effective communication toelicit pertinent history from patients and negotiate problem solving.6.Skill in performing patient assessments and formulating treatment plans forpatients.7.Skill in preparing written reports, medical records, and otherdocumentation.8.Skill in communicating with primary care providers, interdisciplinaryteams, other psychiatric providers, MH therapists and other staff as needed.9.Ability to be actively involved in multidisciplinary teams relevant toquality improvement.10.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withemployees, other departments and the public.11.Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.12.Ability to seek and receive feedback from supervising physician13.Ability to work with diverse patient populations and
