The 2021/22 Summer Internship Programme is now open for applications!

We are the government agency charged with conserving New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. We want to ensure that New Zealanders gain environmental, social and economic benefits from healthy functioning ecosystems, recreation opportunities, and from living our history.

DOC is a great place to work (we’ve won awards!). As part of the internship programme you will work with a wide range of organisations and individuals to protect native species and special places, so they are here for generations to come, and help New Zealanders get involved in conservation.

Internship Opportunities

We are happy to announce that we have 20 projects with 26 positions available! This year have positions available in Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson, Palmerston North, Whangarei, Rotorua, Dunedin, Auckland and Wellington.

These opportunities are detailed in the attached booklet. When you apply for one or more of these Internships, make sure to be clear in your cover letter which opportunity you’re applying for by including the SIP code and the title of the Internship. (i.e. SIP001 – Emergency Management)

What can you expect?

• A paid internship of 14 weeks between 15th November 2021 and 18th February 2022
• A role within a business unit of the Department with a specific outcome for you to achieve.
• Support and guidance from both your workplace buddy and the Capability Development Team.

Eligibility

To be considered you’ll need:

• At least one year of completed tertiary study for a degree in any discipline,
• To be a full-time student (or have completed your degree in the last six months),
• To be a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident
• To be available to attend our Induction Programme on the 15th – 17th November in Wellington.
