Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections) Health Services lead the delivery of patient-focused primary health care services to tangata within corrections facilities across Aotearoa. Hōkai Rangi, our over-arching strategic direction, places the focus on health at the heart of our business. Building our frameworks from a Matauranga Māori basis is our focus to drive and support equity for Māori, which in turn will contribute to achieving our outcomes of reducing reoffending.
Mō te tūnga | About the roles
Mental Health Nurses work as part of the Intervention and Support Practice Team which consists of clinical specialists whom deliver mental health services to those most vulnerable people in our care. Working within a multi-disciplinary approach to care and well-being, your role as a Mental Health Nurse is to provide health services which enhance mental health care for tāne in our management. Effective clinical caseload management will include triage, assessment and evidence informed treatments that are aligned to best practice mental health service provision, as well as overall promoting the delivery of holistic and recovery-oriented health services across the prison environment. We are seeking Mental Health Nurses to join our mental health service based in Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Central Auckland.

As part of the COVID-19 response, health workers regulated by the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act are required to be vaccinated and boosted. This includes doctors, nurses and psychologists.
Staff not regulated by the HPCA do not currently need to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
