The role addresses complex health and rehabilitation challenges and approaches. The General Managers Pae Ora will collaborate across the Department to achieve better outcomes for individuals in our care and their whānau.
The role of the General Manager Pae Ora is vital within our regional leadership teams, actively participating in fostering productive peer-to-peer relationships with our regional General Managers Pae Ora. The General Manager Pae Ora plays a key role in prioritising health and rehabilitation issues in the delivery context within custody and the community, while also making significant contributions to operational leadership within the region.
You will contribute to the growth and development of a diverse team, supporting operational safety through introducing more strengths-based approaches that complement existing risk management practices.

We are seeking a manager who is care-focused, placing individuals and their whānau at the forefront of decision-making. You have demonstratable experience applying a growth mindset, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity.
You will be committed to fostering a positive and inclusive culture, with a willingness to elevate Te Ao Maori worldviews and develop cultural competency.
You have a proven ability to build and maintain trusted networks across the sector and all health disciplines. You have the capability to navigate challenging conversations with compassion, respect, and curiosity, reflecting a proactive leadership style.
As a manager you are dedicated to developing teams and individuals, ensuring a supportive environment for professional growth, and fostering collaboration across diverse professional groups.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The full salary range is $156,168 – $183,727 (Mid) – $220,473. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.

In 2019, we adopted Hōkai Rangi as our long-term organisational strategy to achieve better outcomes for our communities. The concept of Pae Ora provides an opportunity for Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa) to build an integrated health and rehabilitation service. The introduction of our confirmed Pae Ora group will help ensure that people under management remain connected to the broader health and social wellbeing system (inclusive of whānau) through pathways of support that extend back into communities. This more holistic view of Pae Ora across Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa) will help ensure we can achieve more equitable health and rehabilitation outcomes for Māori and all people in our management and beginning to realise the outcomes we seek through Hōkai Rangi. We are also bringing in new ways of working to help us deliver Hōkai Rangi, with a range of new roles being formed as part of The Pathway Forward Te Ara Whakamua.
