Please review the job details below.Maxar is currently seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer to join ourteam.This role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with NASA on thePower Propulsion Element (PPE) program, which is part of Gateway. Incollaboration with the program safety team, you will be responsible fordeveloping the analyses, requirements, and verifications needed to ensurethe PPE system is safe for astronauts returning to the moon. The preferredlocation is Maxar’s Palo Alto office, but the role can be based remotelyin the U.S in the areas around Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, orWashington, D.CResponsibilities:Work with cross-functional team to lead risk-based hazard analysis at a systemlevel, identify appropriate control and mitigation strategies, write andflow down safety requirementsReview system Con Ops, system architecture, and system design from asafety perspective, and collaborate on software, hardware, andoperations systems designs to enhance the system safety to meet requirementsCollaborate with reliability engineers to produce complete and accuratereliability assessments, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs) andFailure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEAs)Develop requirements for fault detection algorithms to mitigate safety hazardsDevelop test plans to verify safety requirements and validate fault handlingcapabilitiesCollaborate with subsystems engineers to flow safety requirements to suppliersand oversee complianceCollaborate with NASA to ensure hazard analysis, safety requirements, andfault management strategy meet contract requirementsPrepare safety reports for NASA, including Hazard Reports, zero faulttolerance documentation, Human Error Analysis, Operating and SupportHazard AnalysisLead Safety Reviews to describe and explain rigorous safety approach to thesatisfaction of internal and external review boardRole model interpersonal behaviors that promote a healthy safety culture,including promoting psychological safety amongst a diverse teamSupport the team in being resilient when priorities shift and believe in thecapacity of all team members to learn and growExhibit moral and interpersonal courage to speak up when safety deficienciescould impact program schedule and costMinimum Required QualificationsMust be a U.S. citizenBachelor’s degree in engineering, STEM or a relevant technical field. Fouryears of additional experience may be substituted for a degree.Minimum of 5 years of experience in system safety engineering, systemsengineering, functional safety, or other similar role. A master’s degreewill count toward two years of experience.Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering throughout the productlifecycle, preferably with aerospace hardware or other safety-criticalcomplex technical systems (e.g. self-driving vehicles, nuclear systems,medical devices)Experience demonstrating technical compliance to rigorous safety standards(e.g. ISO 21448, ISO 26262, ISO 14971, IAEA Safety Standards,CMMI); preference for familiarity with NASA safety standards (NPT8715.3, MIL-SAble to travel for periods of 2- 5 days on an occasional basisPreferred Qualifications:Masters degree or higher in engineering or relevant technical fieldExperience using software tools for requirements management (e.g. DOORS,Jama, SysML)Knowledge of USG space architectures, missions, systems, requirements,and acquisition methods required and be able to strategize unique solutions.Demonstrated ability to build trust with internal and external team members,including fostering a culture of psychological safety and inclusionExcellent written and verbal communication skillsMAXAR Technologies values diversity in the workplace and is an equalopportunity/affirmative action employer.
