Dow has an exciting job opportunity as a R&D/TS&D Fabrication Technician in Freeport Texas
This position is for a Technical Service and Development (TS&D) Fabrication Technologist within the Performance Plastics – Specialty Packaging business in Texas Operations. The successful candidate will be part of a team in the fabrication laboratory supporting Technical Service & Development scientists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing new polymers and applications, and servicing customers. The fabrication team comprises a total of over twenty technologists and contractors, responsible for converting (i.e. fabricating e.g. films, bottles, caps, pipes, etc.) and testing those articles, as requested by TS&D scientists, engineers and customers. Equipment includes blown and cast film equipment, extrusion coating, injection and blow molding, pipe and fiber extrusion, application converting and transportation testing equipment. Technologists are responsible for managing, then safely executing work requests, maintaining and running complex fabrication equipment, testing and recording important parameters which enable us to stay ahead of the competition, through technology and product development.
Job Duties:
•Accountable for the operation, maintenance and calibration of plastic processing and fabrication equipment
•Works with leadership and broader team to ensure requests are appropriately prioritized, completed and reported
•Complies to all relevant Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements, and intervenes with others, as appropriate
•Ensures appropriate ISO compliance across areas of responsibility
•Maintains request database for equipment to ensure accurate queries/reports
•Ensures all changes to materials or work procedures are reviewed, and Management of Change (MOC) updated as needed
•Keeps work instructions up-to-date, and conducts training for new assistants/operators
•Ensures requestors receive all pertinent information with respect to experimental results
•Assists in troubleshooting with process and/or quality problems as appropriate
•Identifies and communicates unexpected or novel results and opportunities
•Evaluates and improves efficiency and productivity of laboratory work processes
•Implements new equipment/methods, and trains others at the direction of leadership
•Proven ability to interpret results with the use of basic statistical tools and document according to Dow standards
•Strong understanding of the people and resources to call on to provide help and balance this with independent thinking and action
•Has the ability to identify roadblocks and define an action plan or alternative approaches
•Sets plans, goals and actions in line with work group objectives and the value creating strategy of the business. Utilizes this knowledge to set or assist in priority setting
•Works in a safe manner and encourages others to do the same

Required Qualifications:
• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a technician or operator in a lab environment
• Must be 18 years old or older
• Must be willing to work weekends with or without reasonable accommodations
• Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular schedule)
• Must have a current, valid US driver’s license for driving a company vehicle
• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Running experiments in a lab environment
• Experience operating plastics fabrication equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills are required
• Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills
• Demonstrate leadership skills – inspire others and lead them through influence
• A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks
Physical Requirements:
Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation
• Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
• Wear and use respirators
• Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
• Work in tight or closed-in spaces
• Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground
• Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs
Education
• An associate degree or higher
• In lieu of an associate degree or higher, Dow Chemical will consider those with four (4) + years of relevant military experience and a High School Diploma or GED.
