Due to growth in our Utilities business , we have an exciting opportunity for an Operations & Maintenance Manager for our Water business to lead our Southern Regional team. In this role, you will bring your talent and expertise to drive commercial strategies and implement the development of key customer engagement strategies and service offerings meeting the needs of Water, and the wider Utilities business.
About the opportunity
This senior leadership role is leading business development, commercial, customer management and operational and maintenance services for 3 Waters related activities in the South Island.
The role provides clear governance and accountability for meeting customer requirements and Downer financial thresholds, safeguarding Zero Harm outcomes while managing stakeholder’s expectations and satisfaction, extending to operational practices and ongoing contract governance and reviews. Day to day you will:
Proactively facilitate a team culture of excellence and people engagement and apply a collaborative approach to working within and across other Downer teams
Engage with and influence customers in a manner that achieves the right outcomes
Overall leadership of operational and maintenance teams across Water South Island contracts and activities.
Optimise overall workforce productivity, fit-for-purpose technical capability and competence of staff and optimising internal and external resourcing mix
Be responsible for the commercial success of all operational activities in line with Downer expectations, Downer Standard, policies, and procedures.
Develop and implement strategies to ensure the delivery of profitable operations and growth.
Drive cost harmonisation frameworks and ensure delivery against cost-out targets and improve project margins.
Build strong working relationships with industry leaders which includes Iwi, Taumata Arowai and associated entities.
Drive timely and risk focussed progress reporting and provide an escalation point for operational and commercial issues.
Expertise required:
Experience in a complex contracted services environment is desirable with 10+ years at a senior level in a similar size business or business unit (+$20m revenue, approx. 150-200 staff, external sub-contractor network).
Proven experience in delivering complex maintenance and operations services, preferably from the water or utilities sectors.
Experience in leading significant positive change in a service environment. Proven record in driving safety and operation performance improvement.
Experience in working at a senior leadership team level internally and with customers.
Desirable to hold a tertiary qualification or equivalent. Qualification in a related discipline, e.g. engineering, commercial, operations management.
