Toka Tū Ake EQC is an Aotearoa (NZ) Crown entity that invests in natural disaster research and education as well as providing natural disaster insurance to residential property owners. We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Communications Advisor | Pūkenga Ratonga Kiritaki to join our team and support us to partner, communicate and engage both within Toka Tū Ake EQC and externally.

We’re seeking an expert advisor who can support our organisation to communicate and engage on strategic priorities, initiatives and operations.

This role will contribute to activities across a range of situations and platforms and requires a confident, engaging manner with excellent interpersonal skills to quickly build effective working relationships across all levels. Your success will be measured by your ability to take ownership and deliver a high standard of work, effectively engage with stakeholders and deliver practical solutions and support.

A values-based approach to your work is a must and together we’ll drive a consistent Toka Tū Ake EQC narrative to maintain and build our reputation, credibility, legitimacy and license to operate as a Crown entity. You will be a credible and trusted person who is actively sought out for their advice, influence, and collaborative approach to health, safety, security, and wellbeing business performance.

Ko wai koe | About You

• 2-3+ years’ experience in a similar communications, media relations and / or journalism role, with a relevant tertiary qualification preferable (but not required).
• Proven delivery of effective communications planning and activities that have engaged target audiences – both internally and externally – and achieved intended outcomes.
• Proven ability to produce compelling story telling products such as key messages/speaking points, Q&As, literature, and feature articles for use across multiple channels
• Experience being a proven advisor who has built trust and credibility with colleagues.
• Understanding of current communications best practice through communications, journalism, public relations, stakeholder engagement and/or marketing or digital or advertising disciplines.
• Proven ability in one or more areas of communications specialisation (e.g. journalism / news media, social media and digital channels, internal communications).
• Has a genuine “can do” attitude and shows an aptitude for continued professional learning and growth.
• Proven ability to grasp concepts quickly and translate them into compelling, exciting and accessible materials for our target audiences. Understands ‘Plain English’ and is able to write in a number of channel specific styles, including digital.
• Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
• Is agile in their ability to respond and adapt to unforeseen situations.
• Effective persuasion and influencing skills with an ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Able to manage a complex workload and work to tight deadlines, able to work in ambiguous situations.
• Knows when to refer upwards, with appropriate recommendations and options.
