The Vulnerable Children’s Education Team (VCET) are a hardworking, dedicated team who are passionate that East Riding children looked after (CLA) and previously looked after children (PLAC) achieve the highest possible outcomes throughout their education journey. To help us continue to provide an outstanding level of support we have an exciting secondment opportunity for an Education Welfare Officer PLAC.
The successful candidate will share our enthusiasm and commitment to promoting the highest educational expectations and aspirations for PLAC and CLA as you oversee their education and give support where necessary to remove the barriers they may be experiencing. You will provide support across all key stages including early years and post 16.
You will be able to provide advice and guidance for our children, their adoptive parents, guardians or carers, educators and any other professionals supporting education. You will have strong communication skills and experience of working together in a multi-agency approach. You will be part of a variety of meetings such as transition meetings, Education Health Care Plan related meetings and reintegration meetings where you will need to share best practice. The ability to be organised and accurate are of paramount importance in this role as you will organise, chair and record your meetings in a personal education plan. The role is fast paced and you will need to respond quickly to support families and schools.
You will be a qualified teacher with recent experiences of working in more than one key stage. You will have experience of supporting the education of PLAC, CLA and/or pupils with SEND including those with an EHCP. You will have knowledge and experience of attachment and trauma informed practice and awareness of the best practice for supporting children with SEMH needs.
The post is a secondment for 0.8 of the week, working Monday to Friday during term time only. There may be the need to work outside of these hours occasionally as part of the role.
