The YAC (Youth Advice Centre) in Crawley offers information, advice, guidance, counselling, and targeted youth services for young people aged 11-25 from Crawley and surrounding areas. Our aim is to provide young people with a safe, friendly, inclusive, and welcoming environment where they can access helpful support and advice.

This role is an exciting opportunity to become part of the YMCA DLG Youth Advice Centre (YAC) team in Crawley, working to help young people aged 16-25 develop their potential and work towards independence through mentoring, as well as encouraging engagement with participation activities. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the YAC, working alongside our Support & Advice, Mind The Gap Emotional Health Support, WiSE, Dialogue Counselling and Crawley Foyer colleagues to engage young people in the mentoring and participation activities.
In delivering the role, you will empower young people (aged 16-25) through group and individual mentoring sessions, focusing on the following areas: money management, cooking and nutrition, independent travel, self-care & wellbeing and raising aspirations. You will play an active role in engaging young people accessing the service in further influencing and participation opportunities within the organisation, including delivering youth groups where young people can get their voices heard.
A key part of this role is to recruit and support a team of volunteer mentors to support delivery of the sessions and wider YAC services. In addition, you will develop activities and resources to aid in the delivery of the mentoring sessions.
This role is based on site at YAC in Crawley. There is flexibility with the shifts, which are yet to be confirmed and can be discussed at interview. Please note, some evening work may be required.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working directly with young people aged 16-25, being able to engage and relate well to this age group, including those who are vulnerable or in crisis. You will ideally have experience of delivering 1:1 or group mentoring sessions and knowledge of the fundamentals of mentoring and youth work, along with experience of designing and developing resources for young people, including activities, workshops, youth group sessions or youth voice activities. In addition, experience of supervising or managing volunteers is desirable.
