Job Description
This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented software engineer to join our robot autonomy team. You will assist with ongoing development of our drone flight autonomy and mapping stack.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Design and implement responsive applications using Web Technologies and/or Android, with real-time 2D/3D data visualisation.
- Design and implement UIs for the desktop software we develop to process, visualise and analyse 3D spatial data.
- Assist with design and development of other user interfaces to the drone and Hovermap payload, which cover alternative operating scenarios.
- Work with the team to collect and organise feedback from stakeholders and customers to understand their application requirements and define product features.
- Consider the user experience in operating a drone for inspection and mapping of complex 3D structures and underground environments.
- Engage with UX Lead and end-users to formulate high level requirements and user experience concepts + workflows.
- Ensure a consistent look and feel to the user interfaces and produce the required icons, colour schemes and other graphical elements.
- Think outside the box to develop new and innovative ways of operating highly intelligent drones, and prototype the new ideas to drive the roadmap.
- Collaborate with the Autonomy, Hardware and Data Analytics teams to improve software architecture.
- Create documentation for internal use (e.g., technical reports) and commercial release (e.g., user manual)Develop automated tests and QA procedures to qualify your software for production use.
- Follow the Agile Development Framework and adhere to all relevant deadlines.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- University level qualifications in software engineering or a related field.3+ years of developing user interfaces for a range of software.
- Experience taking very high level requirements, and using these to formulate and implement novel user interface solutions.
- Experience optimising user workflows by improving interface designs and layouts.
- Demonstrated experience in Java / Kotlin or C++.Demonstrated experience developing single page web applications in HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS.
- Experience with modern Web development frameworks and tools, including Angular, AngularJS, React, Material Design, Bootstrap, SASS.
- Experience with developing a consistent look and feel with unique colours, icons, animations and layouts.
- Good communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to ensure high quality code and good outcomes for stakeholders.
- Experience with development tools using GIT or SVN, Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence), IntelliJ, VSCode or Android Studio.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with the DJI Mobile SDK or similar 3rd party SDK frameworks.
- Experience in the relevant fields of robotics or drones and familiarity with various concepts in robotics.
- Skills or domain knowledge in GIS, mining or 3D data processing software.
- Experience with 3D data visualisation, using WebGL (e.g. BabylonJS) or other 3D frameworks (Unreal, Unity).Experience with embedded systems or safety-critical software development.
- Comfortability working in the Android ecosystem (Java, Android Studio, Gradle, adb) and using Linux.
- You are familiar with open source UI libraries (e.g., QT) and graphics libraries (e.g., OpenGL and OpenSceneGraph).
