Envoy Air Hiring for Flight Attendant at Chicago, IL Full Time

Job Description

A Flight Attendant’s duties consist of performing or assisting in the areas of service and safety to passengers in flight and on the ground. The Flight Attendant must attend training classes and Continuing Qualification (CQ) procedures training.

Work environment is subject to frequent changes in climate and locales, and involves variable hours and working conditions, changes in cabin altitude from sea level to 12,500 feet, variable positive and negative G loads, and occasional turbulence in-flight. A duty period may be scheduled up to fourteen

hours and may be extended to sixteen (16) hours. When working in galleys and when in hotels on layovers a Flight Attendant may spend lengthy periods alone without observation or supervision.

While performing inflight and ground duties, a Flight Attendant works in the confined spaces of aircraft aisles and galleys. To provide service to passengers and operate cabin equipment, a Flight Attendant must stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy objects from the floor to above shoulder level and push and pull equipment such as moveable carts, liquor kits and meal carriers. Flight Attendant work environment may include animals, food stuffs and other allergens.

A Flight Attendant is in continuous contact with the public and from time to time must handle unaccompanied minors, disorderly, intoxicated, and irate passengers. A Flight Attendant cares for and assists ill, injured, and incapacitated passengers and may administer first aid in compliance with government and company regulations.

In the event of an emergency, a Flight Attendant must be prepared to rapidly evacuate passengers from an aircraft, provide leadership, direction and assistance to passengers in accordance with government and company regulations. A Flight Attendant must be able to operate mechanical equipment such as air stairs, open aircraft doors, and remove window exits, use fire extinguishers and oxygen system. A Flight Attendant must also be prepared to provide leadership, direction, and assistance to passengers in unusual incidents such as bomb threats and hijacking.

During CQ training, a Flight Attendant is required to actively participate in simulated emergency situations and physically operate aircraft emergency equipment. The Flight Attendant is jointly responsible with the Company for compliance with the government regulation requiring CQ training to be completed once every calendar year.

The following are the approximate weights of items handled by Flight Attendants depending on type of aircraft:

Carts: 132 lbs.

Emergency window exit: 42 lbs.

Emergency door stress: 30 – 63 lbs

Job Requirements

• Minimum age: 18 years
• Height Restriction: between 5’0” and 6’0″
• Willing to relocate to one of Envoy’s bases depending upon operational need
• Possess the legal right to work in the United States
• Legal right to travel to/from all countries that Envoy serves
• Maintain a valid passport
• Corrected vision of at least 20/50 in each eye
• High School diploma, GED or equivalent
• Must be able to pass Company/DOT Drug Test
• Successfully complete approximately 35 days in a regimented training program while maintaining a 90% average or above on written and oral exams and successfully perform the physical requirements of the job including emergency evacuation drills
• Ability to read, write and fluently speak and understand the English language
• Report to work on a regular and timely basis
• Must fulfill FAA criminal background check to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA), if applicable
• Must be able to secure appropriate authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable
• Neat, well-groomed and capable of making a positive impression

Essential Job Functions

Must be able to perform the following functions in variable weather and environmental conditions:

• Perform Flight Attendant duties, which may require up to eight (8) hours of standing, and multiple takeoffs and landings in pressurized and/or unpressurized cabin environments.
• Push and pull a beverage cart weighing up to 132 lbs. Depending on type of aircraft.
• Interpret coded catering papers to ensure all necessary items are included for an effective service.
• Serve alcohol, hot/cold beverages and food items from a tray or beverage cart during all phases of flight. Trays weigh between 16.3 lbs., and 20.8 lbs. depending on type of aircraft.
• Hear and interpret the chime system on board aircraft and determine origin of the call.
• See and interpret the color-coded ceiling light panel indicators to determine crew or passenger needs.
• Able to perform mathematical calculations required to fill out inventory sheets, count catering items and verify passenger counts.
• Ensure passenger compliance with all safety requirements and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Operate exits in manual and emergency mode, which requires two handed gripping, rotating, and pushing of door control handles.
• Able to lift window exit, which weigh in excess of 42 lbs. and manually deploy, retract aircraft stairs.
• Able to fit quickly through the smallest secondary cabin emergency exit window on Envoy aircraft.
• Assist disabled passengers during the flight by assisting with food items, conduct individual safety briefings and transport them to/from the onboard wheelchair when applicable.
• Read announcements effortlessly without prior review.
• Assess situations quickly and judge whether to initiate emergency evacuation procedures which requires full extension of both arms straight out from the body.
• Effectively manipulate latches, switches, knobs, and controls located throughout aircraft.
• Effectively handle emergency medical situations including closed cardiac compression and mouth to mouth resuscitation for up to thirty (30) minutes.
• Know the location of all emergency equipment and methodically apply procedures in an emergency situation.
• Able to fit into a jump seat harness and seatbelt without modification in any manner including the addition of a seatbelt extension, to achieve closure.
• Brace body against seat back, climb over seat backs, fit in protected position during an emergency situation.
• Don and seal oxygen mask and smoke hood to face using both hands.
• Evacuate a full aircraft in less than 90 seconds.
• Jump from aircraft door or window to ground (approximately 6 feet).
• Jump down an aircraft door evacuation slide.
• Remove from seat and pull/drag disables or incapacitated passengers to nearest usable exit during an emergency evacuation.
• Use SABRE computer system to sign in for flight, to check schedules and to bid for schedules.
• Be situationally aware at all times and maintain a safe working environment.
• Reach above shoulder when performing tasks such as removing emergency window exits, verifying safety equipment in cabinets, starting aircraft safety announcements, and when closing overhead compartments.
• Reach below knees when performing tasks such as picking up trash left on aircraft, preparing lower drawers of beverage cart, and in an emergency situation, reach to floor level and pull manual inflation handle.
• Reach knee to shoulder when performing tasks such as opening/closing/securing of aircraft doors, providing beverage/meal services and performing pre-flight safety checks.
• Rotation of the cervical spine when performing tasks such as collecting trash and adjusting belts, opening/closing main passenger entry and service doors.
• Maintain balance to prevent falling while working. The Flight Attendant must balance when ambulating on jetbridge, adapter and aircraft while walking forwards and backwards at angles up to 45 degrees and during turbulent conditions.
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stand, walk and climb while performing tasks such as collecting trash and adjusting seat belts, jumpseat, loading beverage carts and to speak with passengers and assist passengers in seats.
