Government Affairs Manager, North America
Expedia is seeking a candidate for the position of Government & Corporate Affairs Manager for North America, Canada. The Government Affairs Manager is responsible for strategic engagement, development and coordination of company resources, advocates, coalitions and assets for the Company and its affiliated campaigns to support the business in Canada. This is a full-time, salaried position and is eligible for benefits.
Under the direction of the Director, Federal Government Affairs, the Manager will have strategic oversight of, and responsibility for, crafting and sustaining Expedia’s public policy operations in Canada. Key components of the role will be proactively engaging elected officials and community partners at the Federal and Provincial government to provide education and advocacy information to help global audiences understand Expedia’s policy positions, including short-term rental, tax, privacy, and online platform regulation. There will also be an opportunity to help drive global projects in North America, as identified by the Director.
This role requires experience with the government and regulatory agencies as well as the ability to understand technical concepts in the fast-paced housing, economic development, e-commerce and digital spaces.
Serve as Expedia Group’s primary representative to the Canadian government, at the Federal and often Provincial level
Analyze legislative proposals, and work with the business to identify and resolve potential company risk
Oversee legislative and regulatory activities, and develop/implement Government Affairs strategies to achieve business objectives
Develop immediate and long-term campaign objectives, based on business need. Implement campaigns, including the creation of collateral material such as position papers, presentations and communications plans
Craft and implement the brands’ strategy to partner with and communicate effectively with bodies of governments in Canada
Represent the company in trade associations and during conferences, workshops, and events.
Leads Government Affairs assets and resources in the region
Experience and demonstrated understanding of advocacy/public policy, particularly in the travel, e-commerce or travel industries
Demonstrated experience working with Canadian government institutions
Demonstrated ability to identify the effects of proposed legislative initiatives and identify threats and opportunities
Ability to build strong and effective relationships through positive communication, integrity and trust
Experience collaborating with internal partners within a matrixed organization and working in a fast-paced team environment that values dedication and ownership
Experience in managing sophisticated, diverse and changing environments and adaptable to this kind of change
A passionate teammate with a positive attitude, with ability to balance multiple tasks with minimal direction
The position will be located in Canada
