• Do you have a demonstrated ambition for sustainability related matters, issues, processes or requirements and their application to solve business challenges and unlock business opportunities?
• Have you experience of either broad or specific sustainability, climate, energy transition, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters in a particular industry or sector (decarbonisation, water and resource management, climate risk or circular economy, diversity, just transition or others, in one or more sectors such as Advanced Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals & Lifesciences, Transport, Agriculture, Consumer Products & Retail, ESG Investing or others)?
• Or have you prior consulting experience applying sustainability or ESG related competencies, expertise or education to particular business challenges or opportunities?

The opportunity

Building on the success of our sustainability ambition launched in January 2021, EY Sustainability is expanding our team on the island of Ireland to help all industry sectors meet their sustainability goals and advance on the net zero transition. To meet the growing expectations of our Clients, for comprehensive, thoughtful and value led sustainability advice; we need a broad spectrum of professionals, with multi-disciplinary and competency experiences, at all levels. In EY Sustainability we support Clients across four pillars:

Reframe Strategy: Working with Clients to create a sustainable strategy that delivers long term value for shareholders and wider stakeholders, understand risks and identify opportunities for competitive advantage to help organizations create and protect value.

Accelerate Transition: Working with Clients to deliver their sustainability ambitions and targets, execute the change projects across the value chain to get there and deliver the underlying business case (financial and ESG/sustainability metrics).

Govern and Operate: Working with Clients to embed ESG/sustainability governance and to deliver more efficient and effective, digitally enabled operations as part of ongoing business operations, including as a managed service.

Build Trust: Working with Clients to build trust with their key stakeholders, share a compelling narrative and report or assure impact of ESG/sustainability ambitions and initiatives, to meet the evolving demands of regulators, investors and other key stakeholders.

From deep specialists on sustainability reporting frameworks, climate change modelling, and carbon baselining, to professionals that can apply themselves to the challenges of sustainable supply chain management and optimisation, circular economy analysis, green procurement, sustainability transformation programme management, sustainability strategy and roadmap development, behavioural change for sustainability, data analysis for sustainable solutions and much more.

To serve our Clients we need professionals with experience in multiple areas where our clients have a critical need for support right now, including setting sustainability strategies and roadmaps, science-based targets, system and process change, project management, sustainable finance, energy modelling and more.

Your key responsibilities

Within EY Sustainability, you will work as part of a high-performing team of dynamic problem solvers with extensive consulting, industry and subject matter experience, helping Clients solve their complex sustainability and ESG related business issues and opportunities, from strategy to execution and close-out.

• Utilise your skills and deep expertise to support Clients in realising value led sustainability initiatives as part of wider programmes
• Engage directly with senior client stakeholders to drive business outcomes, including the facilitation of client interviews, workshops and project governance sessions
• Be involved in projects across the end-to-end project lifecycle, from business case development to project execution and close-out
• Work with both our local and global team of experts to develop unique, innovative and game-changing solutions as well as benefitting from best-in-class operations focused training and development
• Working effectively as a team member by sharing responsibility, providing support, motivating others, maintaining communication and updating senior members on progress
• Understanding our Client requirements, co-developing our approach with the Client, and providing deep expertise and value led solutions to our Clients through insights, factual conclusions and advice
• Carry out relevant quantitative and qualitative analysis and communicate and present your findings clearly
• As an influential member of the team, you will help to create a positive learning culture and motivate others to develop professional. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing more junior members of the team and providing constructive feedback on both a formal and informal basis
• Maintaining and constantly upgrading technical knowledge and personal skills.

Skills and attributes for success

• Strong understanding of business operations, markets and industries gained through involvement / delivery of projects
• Exceptional problem-solving ability including logical reasoning, creative thinking and the ability to untangle complex issues and appreciate multiple trends and issues across markets
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing
• A solid team player who’s also an independent thinker
• Deadline-driven, highly organised and able to multitask
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with intermediate proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and other visualization tools
• Strong people skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Experience working effectively with stakeholders at all levels in an organisaiton
• Ambition to work in a fast-paced, results-focused environment

Qualifying criteria

This is a multi-level, open post covering a wide range of possible opportunities to join EY Sustainability. There are potentially 40 positions to be filled, on a rolling basis, over the period of July 2022 to June 2023.

Candidates will qualify for different levels based on their combination of: relevant years of experience; education and background; demonstratable competencies and skill sets; and the expectation of leveraging that history and experience for application in the determined role.

To qualify for a role you ideally will have, at a minimum, the following:

• Outstanding academic record including a relevant third level degree
• Proven Microsoft Office experience
• Good business acumen / understanding of economy and market drivers
• Good written and verbal communication skills (in English)
• Good numeric analysis, workshop facilitation skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Candidates seeking more senior roles will need to clearly demonstrate some or all of the following:

• Relevance of their experience to date in the application of their function as a consultant with EY Sustainability
• Clear understanding of their competency “brand” within the EY Sustainability multi-disciplinary expert environment
• Demonstration of relevant networks and associations that support their proposed role in EY Sustainability
• The most senior candidates will also demonstrate a strong business case for the application of their experience and skills to client challenges in a manner that shows a clear demonstration of the opportunity to make a material impact for EY Sustainability and Clients
