Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The Facility Operations Retrofits team supports our data centers by identifying, developing, and managing the global processes, programs, and capital project planning necessary to ensure reliable and state of the art data center facilities. This team provides management and governance of Facebook’s MEP/CSLA data center improvement and retrofit project portfolio, through the gating, adjudication, prioritization, and resource management of capital improvement projects impacting Facebook’s global data center fleet. Critically, the team aligns Facility Operations and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure projects are executed with minimal business disruption and provide guidance, facilitation, and strategic direction for high-complexity, IDC/Infra-wide MEP and Network capital projects affecting Facebook’s global portfolio. The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced professional in project management processes including assessment of scope, risk, cost and schedule, communications, and decision-making. A sound technical background and keen understanding of MEP systems and facility operations, as well as working knowledge of the upstream production processes they support, are highly preferred. An ideal candidate will have a developed strategic mindset, and should possess expertise in the creation, development, and management of large-scale cross-functional programs in support of top-line company objectives. Furthermore, the ability to assess and distill large amounts of data to influence and drive decision making is an essential skill. Superb communications, program management and organizational skills are also critical.
As the program manager, be the primary owner of the process for identification, development, planning, and prioritization of MEP/CSLA, and Network/IDC programs with MEP impact.
Support cross-functional teams on bringing their project proposals for stage-gates and approval as appropriate, as well as support their needs through the governance processes.
Ensure the projects being considered have the appropriate technical and business justification before approval and execution. This role ensures critical documentation – including charters, project plans, schedules, and technical/ROI/Cost/Resource Data to support decisions – are available and complete prior to approval. Lead the development of project management processes and standards in a way that’s appropriate for projects of different sizes and complexity.
In collaboration with cross-functional data center and HQ teams, support efficient planning of equipment lifecycle maintenance activities, upgrades, and refurbishment projects that require equipment and building shutdowns to minimize impact on operations, redundancy, and IT capacity.
Ensure consistency and use of best practices across fleet using global standards and processes in various aspects of portfolio planning and execution.
Lead the creation, development, and improvement of processes supporting capital project work, including portfolio planning, front end project management, shutdown/retrofit planning, and other key processes.
Coordination and PM’ing of cross-functional improvement initiatives across IDC and Infra in support of Facebook’s larger budget, capacity, and reliability goals.
Apply technical expertise in MEP equipment and systems, operations and project management in representing FacOps to provide support in management of cross functional processes across IDC, such as DCIS, Quarterly Tactical Plan (QTP) and others.
In partnership with other IDC teams, lead the strategy for optimum scheduling and execution of building shutdowns to support hardware, Network, and MEP equipment lifecycles, with minimal impact to capacity.
Understand what data are available within the Facility Operations Retrofit Space, and leverage it where appropriate to drive process and project performance. Provide data visibility through dashboards or other tools, and use it to form key program metrics.
Lead the change management processes for retrofits and other supporting processes.
Ensure the right tooling developments are being prioritized, supported and delivered in support of Retrofits processes.
Provide crisp and timely communications to leadership, site teams and cross-functional partners at DC sites and global teams, including decisions made, risks, and progress reports.
Lead long range capital planning processes by engaging with expert teams regarding DC improvement and retrofit project opportunities.
Travel approximately 25%-50%.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil or industrial)
10+ years of experience in operations or project management in technical/industrial and mission critical environments
Experience in leading complex technical programs and work with cross-functional teams with minimal direction
Experience leveraging data to drive decisions and align stakeholders
Track record of thinking strategically and executing tactically, keeping high-level business objectives in mind
Track record of assertively driving global processes with minimal supervision
Experience in program management and deployment
Experience supporting site teams in a responsive and resourceful manner
Experience providing solutions to large-scale project portfolios
Superior communications skills
