This position may be located at any of the offices within First Interstate Bank’s fourteen state footprint, including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.
SUMMARY
The successful candidate will assist our team in monitoring and managing all parts of multiple loan products including direct and indirect consumer and commercial (C&I, CRE, and construction segments). This individual will interact with people across the bank while providing needed financial reporting, monitoring key performance metrics, and preparing budget projections. This position works closely with personnel in data, risk management, and operational roles, and will require strong communication skills and a displayed ability to explain complex topics in easily understood terms. This individual will have ample opportunity to display superior analytical skills while assisting us in optimizing our portfolios, streamlining and improving internal processes, and providing concise, validated financial information to key players within the division. In this position, the knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and object-oriented programming (OOP) such as Python, C# or Java/Java Script are vital to this role. This position will also assist in other corporate units where needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare reports used in the annual departmental budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
Develop and present 1- and 5-year budget and forecast projections based on historical performance and economic trends.
Monitor performance metrics across the division.
Document new and existing reporting methods.
Use expertise to improve and streamline reporting process.
Create ad-hoc reporting/models as required.
Data Analysis:
Identify income and expense trends within existing budget picture.
Provide financial/analytical expertise to business line heads.
Highlight business opportunities and develop supporting business cases.
Assist in researching periodic questions from the federal and state banking regulators, internal auditors and external auditors in conjunction with examinations or audits.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related field and 5 or more years of previous experience in financial services; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A working knowledge of accounting, budget forecasting, and/or basic statistics is required. Experience with commercial lending, forecasting, and reporting highly preferred.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Applicants must possess basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. The applicant must have strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience in the construction and analysis of data sets, translating large amounts of data into useful information for the decision making process.
Applicants should have good organizational and communication skills with experience in leading projects.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Applicant should be able to skillfully communicate verbally with all ranges of customers, both internal and external. Additionally, the applicant should be able to organize and document policies and procedures, and effectively present information to and respond to questions from managers, employees and customers. Applicant will need to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Applicants must be able to apply concepts of basic statistics and financial math, define appropriate measures and calculate figures and amounts. Applicants must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Critical thinking capabilities, the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, are necessary for this position. Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
This position may require occasional travel.
