The Role
We are looking for a Manager, Software Engineering that is ready to play a high visibility role and have a major impact on the overall success of software projects. The successful candidate will be a hands-on technical leader and people manager of a team in Australia who can balance multiple priorities and projects. This role offers fantastic opportunities for growth in several areas: recruiting, hiring, and managing a successful team of software engineers; developing your own technical skills in a modern engineering organization; and practicing Agile development methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Solve challenging technical problems, review code, and mentor junior engineers. Act as an escalation point for issues
- Plan sprints, assign work to team members, and make decisions in line with business priorities
- Work with business owners on planning and preparation for new projects
- Lead projects that spread over several development teams
- Deliver new components and features to production
- Take pride in the quality of the software produced by your team, verify it through metrics, and assume ownership of problems
- Maintain and improve engineering practices to improve quality and predictability
- Shape the dynamics of the team; keep people working with each other and moving forward
- Hire and onboard new team members
Requirements
- 3+ years in an engineering team leadership role
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- History of successfully building and operating microservices written in Java
- Track record of delivering software in distributed, highly available public cloud environments
- Working knowledge of SRE and DevOps practices
- Experience building new engineering processes within an organization
- Project management and Agile knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience
