Reporting to the Regional Manager, Operations & Engineering, this position provides leadership to the gas plant Operations Supervisors in directing the operations crews, meeting daily demands related to system operations, capital construction projects, maintenance & repair and emergency response procedures. Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values, and leadership competencies, this role will drive the onsite processes and procedures.
Responsibilities
Ensures appropriate staffing levels and provides leadership and direction of the workforce through Operations Supervisors assigned to support gas plant and storage operations. Participates in recruitment activities; ensures resources are fully trained and competent in their roles to align work and resources for optimal scheduling and delivery
Sets high-level goals and objectives, and determines priorities to meet operational demands and service level commitments;.
Responsible for all aspects of safety on the job, including incident investigations, safe work planning and crew audits.
Responsible to ensure optimum efficiencies in the areas of planning, organizing of the plant equipment, materials, documents and tools. Makes sure equipment and facilities operate at maximum efficiency with minimum down time in a safe and cost effective manner; promotes continuous production improvement.
Participates in the development of plant/project budgets and assists the Regional Manager, Operations & Engineering in meeting budgetary commitments through accurate project estimates, labour/materials charges and resource scheduling.
Follows company policies and practices, and applies applicable codes and standards, in all aspects of project/construction work at gas plant & storage sites.
Identifies and follows through on optimization opportunities. Maintains continuous understanding of operating costs, key cost drivers and cost savings initiatives.
Acts as the primary point of contact for the business unit; responding promptly to ensure efficiency and minimal interruption to gas plant and storage operations; establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders. Communicates and coordinates with other departments, contractors and other work groups as required to coordinate the performance of work. Be accessible to act as a resource for on-call employees in emergency situations. Requirements
Bachelors degree in a related discipline, Diploma of Technology in a related discipline from a recognized program &/or Red Seal Trade Certification plus 4 to 7 years related field experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Utility & project/construction management experience
Ability to work in high stress environment; manage high volume of projects and meet deadlines
Excellent teambuilding skills; ability to create a positive work environment
Demonstrated knowledge of labour relations; experience managing a workforce
Demonstrated knowledge of gas control systems, gas storage systems and mechanical control components; ability to troubleshoot
Demonstrated knowledge of plant, maintenance, operations, construction and repair processes
Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies and procedures, WSBC regulations and safety standards
Demonstrated leadership skills; with clear direction in operational, technical, financial and safety excellence as well as health, safety and environmental
Basic knowledge in budget preparation and execution
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills required
Excellent communication skills; verbal & written
