Our work depends on motivated CASUAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATORS joining our Personnel Vetting and Security team to support a large federal background investigations (BI) program located in Falls Church, VA.

As a CASUAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATOR , you will support a large national background investigations (BI) program that provides investigative products and services to departments and agencies of the federal government. Focused on our Nation’s security, BIs are required to determine an individual’s suitability for employment with the federal government, eligibility for access to classified information, assignment to or retention in positions with sensitive duties, or other designated duties requiring such investigations. The investigations often involve personal and intimate details of an individual’s life and must be processed and conducted with tact and discretion. Information collected by the investigator as part of the BI is protected under the Privacy Act of 1974. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Review completed background interview documentation checking for inconsistencies, errors, omissions, falsifications and minimum requirements to ensure accuracy and completion before beginning initial candidate interview

  • Conduct background investigations by interviewing employers, co-workers, neighbors, law enforcement officials, military personnel, members of the candidate’s family and personal references

  • Prepare detailed and complete interview statements for each person being interviewed in order to allow a reviewer to draw reasonable and logical conclusions about the prospective candidates

  • Prepare documentation for inclusion into a results of investigation package organizing all investigative material in accordance with established procedures

  • Prepares detailed summary of adverse information based upon objective analysis and evaluation of candidate’s background, and interviewee statements, as measured against requirement standards as set forth by the FIS

  • Please note that as a Casual employee, you are not allowed to work at another vendor conducting any background investigative activities. In addition, on average Casual employee work hours could fluctuate from 0 – 30 hours per week.

MUST HAVE ABILITY TO:

  • Simultaneously consider numerous facts, perceive patters and relationships, develop theories about past occurrences based on numerous small bits of information or evidence, compare and interpret information, recognize and examine discrepancies, and draw logical conclusions

  • Manage time sufficient to prioritize and combine investigations when practicable to ensure timely completion to include handle several cases at one time

  • Communicate and deal tactfully, persuasively, and effectively with coworkers, supervisors, management and the public

  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills required to discuss matters which are of a sensitive and sometime inflammatory nature with candidates, supervisors and management

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Must reside in California, New York, New Jersey or Virginia (Required)

  • Must have already completed an approved NTS Background Investigator course (Required)

  • Minimum 5 years of background investigation experience at the state or federal level with an Associate’s Degree (Required)

  • Active Secret clearance (Required)
