About The Role
This position presents an exciting opportunity for an entry to mid-level Software Engineer with a background in Web Development. You will be an integral part of our dynamic team, working on the development of cutting-edge web-based mapping tools for Science projects that serve diverse communities, including wildland fire management, drought monitoring, and land cover mapping.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain websites and mapping applications to visualize and distribute geospatial data.
Collaborate with a skilled web development team, providing support to the USGS EROS Integrated Science Applications Branch.
Work with a variety of technologies, including but not limited to PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for facility access and user accounts post-hire.
Minimum of three years of continuous residency in the US.
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science.
A minimum of 3-5 years of recent and related work experience.
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Proficiency in software engineering methodologies and processes.
Experience with web design, administration, and database-driven applications.
Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS, and security concepts.
Competency with collaboration software and exposure to Java, Flex, and Javascript.
Familiarity with Python coding and knowledge of frameworks like Laravel.
Consideration Will Be Given To Candidates With
Familiarity with requirements and design analysis.
Experience with testing and configuration management tools such as Git.
Knowledge of GIS systems and tools (commercial or open source).
Familiarity with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Specifications, including WMS, WFS, WCS, and CS-W.
Proficiency in image editing software like Photoshop.
Understanding of spatial data, reference, and projection systems.
Work Location:
This position is based at the USGS EROS Center and supports a hybrid remote and on-site schedule, offering flexibility to our dedicated team members.
