Project Introduction

Wafer Fabrication is the fundamental of all electronics and its applications in the semiconductor supply chain. There are many modules and steps involved in the wafer fabrication. Reliability provides support to Fabs and Technology Development (TD) on reliability testing and qualifications on new technology, routine process monitoring and process improvement.

This project aims to:

• Optimize and/or create macro or scripts for gate oxide and interconnect dielectric breakdown voltage and/or time-to-failure extraction

• Automate graph plotting of IV curves and relative degradation vs time plots

Interns will get exclusive insights and hands-on experience in Global Foundries’ state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing environment. Through shadowing experts in the field and assisting in works inside the lab, you will gain:

• Exposure to various reliability failure mechanisms, reliability testing, data analysis and lifetime extrapolation methodologies of the reliability mechanisms such as device gate oxide and interconnect dielectric reliability

• Hands-on access to data analysis tools such as Minitab and JMP to be able to plot, generate and automate the data collected from testing

You will also be presented with various opportunities such as roundtable with management and inter-department networking and interactions. Interns will also be given chances to consolidate their learning and provide recommendations for improvement.

Interns will gain experience in the semiconductor industry, and successfully completed the following:

• Reduction of reliability data analysis time through automation

• Systematic data extraction, analysis and compilation

• Improved accuracy of breakdown voltage or time to fail extraction

At the end of the internship, a presentation of learning experience with recommendations for improvement is required.
