Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 3 years of experience coding in C/C++
- Experience in lower-level computer systems, computer architecture and kernel development
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience developing for Linux kernel, coreboot, or related open-source projects
- Experience leading teams of embedded/kernel developers
- Familiarity with hardware development, test and/or manufacturing processes
- Comfortable working across the stack from BIOS to Kernel to UI
- Comfortable working across the a range of languages and stacks (e.g., Python, Go, C/C++, Rust)

As a Software Engineer on the Chrome OS Kernel team, you will collaborate with a group of software, firmware, and hardware engineers, at Google and our eco-system partner companies, to enable Chrome OS on next-generation hardware platforms.
In this role, you will lead system integration efforts in the kernel layer, ensuring product excellence and an upstream first development process. You will debug and root cause critical performance, stability and integration issues across many layers of the stack – hardware, firmware, kernel, userspace. You will design and implement solutions and engage with open source communities to land them in mainline repositories.
You will help scale the Chrome OS ecosystem by defining and implementing process improvements that enable the rapid introduction and ongoing freshness of a rapidly expanding fleet of devices.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with open-source communities and technology and eco-system partners to develop Chrome OS on next-generation hardware platforms.
- Own kernel-layer stability, performance and integration issues for families of related Chrome OS devices.
- Establish and advocate best practices to find, fix and prevent bugs in the Linux kernel related to Chrome OS platforms and features.
- Lead the design and development of new platform-layer (e.g., firmware/kernel) features, subsystems, application programming interfaces (APIs), and device drivers targeting Chrome OS devices.
- Work closely with open-source communities to upstream solutions that are beneficial for Google, our eco-system and the greater open source community (e.g., Linux kernel, coreboot, Zephyr, etc.).
