The ministry works with businesses, labour groups, workers, and other stakeholders to foster a positive labour environment.
We are looking for a communications consultant to join our team who has experience in web/intranet development; analytics and video editing, along with a broad range of abilities including strong writing skills that help share and tell stories; media relations; issues and event management; and desktop publishing.
You will have knowledge of:
- communication, stakeholder and media relations theories and practice; (Knowledge of Communications and Media Relations)
- communication principles and strategic communications planning; and
- Canada Press Style and capitalization.
You will have the ability to:
- interpret complex information and facts;
- research, analyze and verify information/facts that will allow you to make recommendations on best communication practices;
- communicate information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing including but not limited to speeches, briefing notes, ad content, web material, correspondence, key messages, brochures or guides;
- plan and execute public events;
- respond to media requests ensuring adherence to deadlines as well as refining key messages;
- independently organize, prioritize and balance diverse/conflicting workload pressures in a changing environment while providing high-quality communications products and advice; and
- write and manage content/updates for website and intranet as well as provide videography and editing services.
You will be:
- a highly-motivated innovative thinker that uses good judgement and best practices in decision-making processes; and
- professional, tactful, and discreet when handling confidential and sensitive information.
Typically, the knowledge required would be obtained through a degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field of study and several years’ experience.

Hours of Work: A – SGEU Office 36 – one day off every two weeks
