The Opportunity
The Employment Standards branch is looking for a confident, client focused and conscientious individual for the position of Employment Standards Officer in Saskatoon, SK. Reporting to the Manager of the Compliance and Investigations unit (North), the responsibilities of this regulatory role include:
Promoting, interpreting, applying, and enforcing employment standards legislation contained within The Saskatchewan Employment Act and Regulations.
Preparing and presenting employment standards cases relating to the application of Part II of The Saskatchewan Employment Act in quasi-judicial hearings before an independent adjudicator.
Investigating employment disputes to determine if labour legislation has been contravened and enforces legislation.
Conducting and analyzing research on legal jurisprudence, reviewing, interpreting, and applying various legislations, and interviewing parties involved in relation to specific cases.
Monitoring cases to ensure employers have complied with enforcement action taken.
Promoting labour legislation through speaking engagements and workshops and providing advice and explanations to clients and the public regarding labour requirements and the employment relationship.
Recommending changes to legislation and branch policy based on case experience.

Have demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and verify facts, comprehend the context and dynamics of employment relationships, develop options and solutions; and make binding decisions.
Have the ability to perform detailed and time sensitive work with demonstrated knowledge of Investigation and enforcement mechanisms and processes, case management principles, corporate and common law, the judicial system, and contract law.
Have knowledge of accounting principles as well as computer skills especially in Microsoft Excel, etc.
Be Client-focused, flexible, and adaptable, thorough, conscientious, and attentive to detail to ensure quality work.
Be confident, organized and be a self-starter to meet a high volume of case work in a time-sensitive environment.
Be reliable, professional, respectful, and supportive as a contributing member of a team to achieve common goals.
Typically, the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a university degree, such as but not limited to business administration or accounting, supplemented by several years’ experience in a regulatory role involving comprehensive investigations, and managing a high-volume caseload in a time sensitive client-based environment.
Limited travel time, 5% or less and work with flexible hours with an occasional overnight stay and a valid class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s licence is required.
