The Income Assistance Service Delivery Division is committed to Strong Teams, Strong Service and Strong Outcomes. We do this by investing in positive outcomes for clients in areas of income support and services so clients can regain their financial independence to the best of their ability. We do this by providing financial support and connecting clients to support services in their community. We meet their basic needs for food, shelter and clothing and develop collaborative, customized plans so they can regain their financial independence to the best of their ability.
Income Assistance Workers are empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental, well-organized collaborators with excellent communication skills who treat all people with dignity, respect and objectivity. They accept and understand the important of the client’s perspective in a client-friendly approach to case planning and are flexible when working with clients and their families, and community organizations. They are reliable and adapt easily to changes in workload, policies and procedures in a continuously changing environment, and demonstrate the Government’s core values (respect and integrity, service citizens, excellence and innovation and act as one team) in all work duties.
About This Role
Income Assistance workers work closely with a diverse clientele to help them to maximize their independence, autonomy and quality of life. As part of a larger team of professionals, you will:
Work with clients in-person and on the phone using various interviewing and supportive counselling techniques;
Assess needs through a strength-based and solution focused case management model while using the client’s own motivations for change and commitment; and
Develop, implement, evaluate and adjust case plans in collaboration with the client to establish agreeable plans with them to help in regaining their financial independence to the best of their ability.
Qualifications
Typically, the knowledge of Income Assistance work is obtained through completion of post-secondary education in the human services field including but not limited to: Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, Human Justice, and/or Psychology OR a combination of a certificate, diploma, degree and relevant experience;
Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form when conducting interviews, supportive counselling, and in all written communication and correspondence;
Case management experience including, interviewing, assessing, planning, and referring to services and/or supports;
Experience working with diverse and multi-cultural individuals/families who may face multiple barriers and challenges such as addictions, mental illness, disability and unemployment;
Understand, interpret, apply and adhere to various procedures and legislation including acts, regulations and policies;
Successfully complete mathematical calculations, and operate computerized programs and databases; and
Manage conflict in a calm, rationale and respectful manner.
