The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport’s mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors. The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Park Maintenance Worker for provincial park lands within Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park of Saskatchewan Parks Service. Reporting to the Supervisor, this position will be involved in the park maintenance program.
As a Park Maintenance Worker you will assist with the maintenance and care of park facilities and grounds, including performing janitorial and sanitation functions. You will operate light to heavy equipment, such as tractors with loaders, gravel and sewer trucks, mowers, skid steers, snowmobiles, ATVs, trailering, power tools and other equipment as directed. In addition, you will assist with the monitoring and inspection of the water systems and sewer systems under the direction of the supervisor. This position may be responsible for a Class 1 Water System. You will be responsible for complying with risk management standards, OH&S, Public Health Regulations and WHMIS. This position involves frequent lifting, carrying and moving supplies and equipment.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of basic cleaning methods (materials, equipment and methods commonly used in housekeeping/janitorial and sanitation activities); safe equipment and building operation, maintenance and minor repair. You will have knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S Regulations. You will have knowledge of Small Water Treatment and Distribution/ Class 1 Water System, Wildland Fire response and Chainsaw safety principals.
The successful candidate will have experience and ability to perform building and/or park maintenance, using common hand tools and light equipment. You will have ability to work independently and/or as a contributing member of a park team to complete work assignments and contribute towards a positive working environment. You will have the ability to respond accurately, clearly and courteously to inquiries from the general public. You will have the ability to identify problems, consider various options and determine appropriate course of action, physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving supplies and equipment such as picnic tables and cleaning supplies and pumps. You will have demonstrated ability to prioritize, assign and oversee work of employees performing maintenance duties.
Our successful candidate must possess a current valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Weekend work is a requirement of the position. Supervision of staff may be required.
