JOB SUMMARY
The Innkeeper is responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations of the hotel with a special focus on creating an exceptional guest experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Training and supervising all departments to ensure they are delivering the highest quality service to guests. This includes providing performance evaluations and, when needed, the appropriate disciplinary action for employees
· Scheduling housekeepers, including coordinating all PTO
· Identifying needed repairs and coordinating scheduling of maintenance work with General Manager
· Communicating with General Manager, Partners, and executive management team regarding performance of the Inn and operational issues
· Working with General Manager to hire staff
· Scheduling and preparing the daily preparation of continental breakfast for guests
· Interacting with guests and employees
· Developing and implementing yield management strategies in the interest of maximizing occupancy of guest rooms which gives the greatest possible revenue, including coordination with Reservationist and General Manager
· Responding quickly to all email, telephone, and SMS requests from staff or guests to ensure the smooth operation of the hotel
· Responsible for preparing and setting out continental style breakfast for inn guests
· Maintaining a close eye on department payrolls to verify appropriate staffing levels are maintained for the delivery of excellent guest service while being mindful of payroll expenses
· Communicating key issues to General Manager on a timely basis
· Cooperating and assisting with staff coordination between all Inns, which may include covering Innkeeper duties for other Inns
· Supporting purchasing and laundry efforts and operating within the developed budget for the property
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Confirming all new employees have fulfilled the necessary procedures for their employment and that all appropriate forms have been filled out and submitted to Human Resources
· Reviewing and approving payroll
· Managing hotel credit card, including compiling back-up receipts
· Working closely with maintenance department to determine that the Inn is in good repair, communicating maintenance needs as they arise, and following up to confirm tasks are completed
· Ensuring safe work practices are being followed by all staff
· Attending and participating in training programs as required
· Assisting any and all departments if they are short staffed and need assistance with their daily duties,
including, for example and without limitation, assisting in daily housekeeping functions
· Performing other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Ability to read and analyze business periodicals, professional journals and government regulations
· Ability to solve problems and interpret instructions furnished in written, diagram, oral or schedule form
· Strong organizational and communications skills. Able to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, guests, and the public
· Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
· Experience with Microsoft Office

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position supervises employees in the Housekeeping department and is responsible for performance management and administering discipline in conjunction with the Human Resources department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly expected to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, and use hands to finger, handle and feel. The employee will occasionally be expected stoop and crouch. The employee will need to be able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moderate noises. The employee will occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outdoor weather conditions.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Heavy weekend (especially from May through October), holiday work and special island events required in addition to being on call unless on a scheduled vacation.
